Hello, My name is Laiba. I am a South-Asian MBACP integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, passionate about supporting adults and young people through life’s challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief, low self-esteem, and stress. I believe: “You don’t teach someone to swim while they are drowning.” In times of emotional or psychological turmoil, it’s not about immediately offering solutions or advice. This philosophy guides how I respond to clients in distress, creating a compassionate, non-judgmental space where healing can begin

I often use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in my practice.
One of my clients has been feeling down, depressed and demotivated. If irritated and short-tempered with people, especially with his wife. He could not find any reason for his feelings. Following the discussion with the client, he said he was a very motivated and active member of his family, but over the past couple of years, he had noticed some changes in his thinking and behaviour. He said that he also daydreams and ruminates a lot. As a result, he had been feeling frustrated and often angry with himself.

I mainly use acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) in my practice, an evolution of cognitive behavioural therapy ( CBT) that keeps your values at the centre of the work, to ensure that we are moving towards what matters to you.
Hi, I'm looking forward to hearing from you! I want to hear your concerns and support you to work towards the things that matter most in your life. I feel that therapy should happen in a friendly, nurturing space in which you feel safe and comfortable to bring anything you want to talk about and work on. I usually suggest exercises and other resources to complete in between sessions in order to keep the work progressing. As an Accredited EMDR Therapist as well as a clinical psychologist, I am able to use the therapy approach most appropriate for your concerns.

Using CBT and practical tools, we'll quiet your inner critic, help you show up authentically without fear of judgment, build confidence to advocate for yourself and create meaningful connections based on who you truly are.
Are you trapped in a cycle of self-doubt that's holding you back? You know you're capable, but that relentless inner critic keeps you second-guessing every decision. In relationships, you hold back your true thoughts and feelings, afraid of being judged or rejected. At work, you downplay your accomplishments and hesitate to speak up, watching opportunities pass by. Self-doubt doesn't have to run your life. Through our work together, you'll learn to recognize the thought patterns keeping you small, challenge the beliefs that no longer serve you, and develop concrete skills to move forward with clarity and self-assurance.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
