Grief
,
loss
and
bereavement
are areas of particular interest.
I work online using Skype or Zoom to support clients who require assistance with their mental health. The ultimate aim will be to achieve a better quality of life where increased self awareness is used to navigate various life challenges. The challenges could be coming to terms with a life threatening illness such as cancer, the breakdown of a relationship, anxiety, work related stress or depression. Being able to be free to express your thoughts and feelings, without being judged, to an impartial person, such as a counsellor can help you cope better.

I offer short-term counselling, where we can work through more immediate and specific problems and longer-term psychotherapy for more intricate and deeper exploration. Whatever you have experienced, my aim is to help you move forward and benefit from the way you want to live your life. I understand how the impact of trauma on our lives creates a block in how we think and behave; where our past can overshadow or impede our view of our present life. With
grief
&
loss
, I recognise the parallel process of coping with our daily lives whilst managing a roller coaster of emotions and feelings that is both challenging and exhausting.

Life brings many challenges. You may be experiencing a range of issues; struggling to understand or come to terms with issues such as health,
loss
, trauma or family issues which can lead to uncomfortable feelings. Sometimes issues are complex and interlink into many areas of our lives creating anxiety, stress, depressed or
grief
. I have experience working with all these and the different ways they affect clients. Are difficult feelings affecting work, social and home life? Impacting on health or self esteem and self worth?

In my 10+ years in the field, I have worked with people facing a wide range of issues, but I do my best work with people in need of individual counselling or dealing with sexual and domestic abuse, life limiting illness and
bereavement
.
You tried to do it all on your own. You’ve been trying hard to get better and live a happy life. But it still feels like something is missing. You’re trying to be strong and putting up a front but it is not a weakness to ask for professional help. Imagine you were feeling at your best and you were taking up opportunities spontaneously, no longer feeling like you are missing out on life. Therapy can help you to feel more confident and in control of your emotions. By working through the challenges you are facing, you will feel happier, lighter, and regain your vitality.

Loss
can be a lonely journey. You may feel like life has lost it's meaning and you can't see a way forward out of this pain. COVID may have impacted how you came to terms with your
grief
. Alternatively, maybe your
loss
was from a long time ago and you now recognise that you never fully learnt to live with the pain. I also offer Walk and Talk Therapy in Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire to those of us who like to move whilst we talk and reflect. Connecting with nature can encourage positive feelings of calmness, joy and creativity. Together, we can explore your experience of
mourning
and very gently, learn to move forward in your life.

I work with a range of issues and have particular experience in
bereavement

In a world where people seem more connected to their phones than each other, it's rare to find someone who has dedicated time and space just for you. Someone willing to walk alongside you for as long as you need to figure things out, digest what has happened, and help you learn about yourself in the process. Perhaps you’ve reached a crisis point in your life, and don’t know where else to turn? Maybe you’ve been out-of-sorts for a while, and need some help to figure out what is going on? Or perhaps you're here because you want to understand yourself better and how you relate to others?

I understand that life can be overwhelming, but I’m here to guide you through those obstacles. My goal is to help you understand yourself more deeply through your journey with me, and get you back on track. My sessions are designed to unravel painful issues and provide you with effective tools to be able to heal. Taking action creates a sense of liberation and a feeling of letting go of the despair associated with insignificance and meaningless. It creates a feeling of growth and promotes the embracing of life and to exist with wonder and curiosity. I've been honoured to be endorsed by Her Grace the Duchess of Rutland and Source.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
