ADHD Counselling in Nottingham
Hello, I am Janette. I am a UKCP and BACP-registered psychotherapist and EMDR therapist. I meet with individuals and couples in person from my practice in Nottingham and remotely, using the Zoom platform.
Reaching out for therapy can feel daunting. I don’t take it lightly when someone chooses to get in touch. I aim to offer a space where you feel genuinely welcomed and met with compassion. From our very first session, I’ll work to help you feel at ease, with no pressure to be anything other than who you are.

This applies to ADHD/neurodiversity too, with my own later life diagnosis explaining much.
Working on-line primarily, with some limited face to face availability currently, I provide a warm, accepting environment. An authentic, confidential and secure atmosphere for therapy allows the opportunity to explore, understand and work towards your therapeutic goals, with the passion and humour I bring. Dealing with the "difficult stuff" is something we are all capable of avoiding. It needs to feel safe enough to talk about what can feel most vulnerable and hardest to put into words. My role is to create the atmosphere where there's trust in; not being judged, found too much or not enough, being heard and valued.

I offer a safe space to be heard, free from judgment and expectations. You will be ready to start, or continue, the journey of discovering those unresolved issues in your life where you feel stuck. At times this may include working through challenges where you might feel anxious about change, our goal would be to address these areas. By working together our aim would be to create a therapeutic relationship that moves at a pace set by you, in order to address these areas in a way that feels safe to share what you choose to focus on in our sessions.

I work with an integrative approach, placing you at the heart of therapy in a safe, judgment-free space. My approach is flexible and fluid, adapting to your unique needs and preferences.

I work with Adults who suspect or have a diagnosis of ADHD and may be experiencing Anxiety or Depression.
I work with clients who often report feeling unseen, misunderstood, or disconnected from themselves and others. These experiences may lead to feelings of a deep sense of awkwardness or isolation, over time, this may lead to low self-esteem, difficulty setting boundaries, and a feeling that they don’t quite belong anywhere.
Do you find yourself constantly masking and adapting to others or putting their needs ahead of your own to feel accepted? Do you find it difficult to speak up about what you want or feel confident in relationships? Do you may feel stuck between wanting connection and fearing rejection?

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
