My approach to therapy is integrative, drawing upon my training and experience in Personal Construct Psychology, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and narrative approaches.
I provide a supportive environment in which we can explore together the difficulties that you're experiencing without any judgement. Life can be tough, and change can be hard. We often get fused to unwanted thoughts, beliefs, and struggle with them. We can often feel despair and a sense of hopelessness. I help people realise that unwanted thoughts, feelings, and circumstances can, and do, change, and help people make positive differences in their life.

As a person‑centred therapist, I believe that every person has the potential for growth and healing, and my approach is all about creating a safe, warm space where you can explore what’s on your mind and in your heart. I’m here to listen, support, and help you make sense of whatever is weighing on you. Many of the people I work with are dealing with stress, anxiety, overwhelm, or patterns that feel hard to shift, and together we create space for things to feel lighter and more manageable. In addition to my person‑centred approach, I also offer BWRT.

Do you struggle with managing your emotions, feeling overwhelmed by intense emotions, or shut down and disconnected? Have you been told you’re too sensitive? You might feel things deeply, be affected by others’ moods, or feel ashamed of how you respond emotionally. You may wonder whether you'll ever feel truly worthy or confident. These difficulties can affect your daily life and relationships, perhaps leading to anxiety, withdrawal or feeling misunderstood. Coping by bottling things up, or ‘just getting on with it’ may have helped, but now you're ready to take the next step towards living fully and forming meaningful relationships.

Life can give us trauma and stress. Often we haven't learned how to process these experiences, which keeps us locked in cycles of emotional distress preventing us from enjoying life and our relationships. Learning to validate these experiences and recognise our responses can help us understand why we sometimes feel overwhelmed in situations that are emotionally triggering. This is often the case if we experience anxiety, depression, self harming or self injurious behaviours or behaviours we know to be unhealthy but feel powerless to stop.

You may feel weighed down by life, like family pressures, work demands, grief, relationship struggles, or long-standing emotional patterns you've carried alone for too long. You may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure who you are anymore. What you may want most is clarity, steadiness, and a chance to breathe. You may come because something in your life is asking for care, attention, and understanding, and you're ready to explore it gently and without judgment.

Welcome to my profile - My name is Cat and I'm an expert in developmental trauma and personality difficulties. These can lead to a range of mental health needs that I can support you with (like anxiety, anger, risky behaviours, psychosis...) and also unhelpful coping behaviours, such as self-harm and suicidal thoughts, substance use, relationship struggles, and on. My approach is to understand the 'why', to get the root cause of difficult experiences so that we know how to improve it. We will work on identifying unhelpful coping strategies and replace these with healthy ones so we can work on developing the life that you want.

One of my clients has been feeling down, depressed and demotivated. If irritated and short-tempered with people, especially with his wife. He could not find any reason for his feelings. Following the discussion with the client, he said he was a very motivated and active member of his family, but over the past couple of years, he had noticed some changes in his thinking and behaviour. He said that he also daydreams and ruminates a lot. As a result, he had been feeling frustrated and often angry with himself.

I use acceptance and commitment techniques to help you align with what matters most.
You’re successful, capable, and driven — but lately, it feels like you’re running on empty. You’re doing everything you can to stay on top of work, family, and life, yet no matter how organised you are, there’s always more to do. The pressure to keep performing is constant, and you’re starting to wonder how long you can keep it up.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
