Welcome! My guess is that getting started can be pretty scary to talk to someone you don't know about things that make you feel uncomfortable, sad, angry, overjoyed or embarrassed, but i would like to reassure you that this process is here to help you grow. There are certain elements necessary in therapy to maintain a space of positivity, growth and healing, but you are not responsible for maintaining those elements - that is the job of the therapist - my job. It is imperative that we maintain a judgement free space that is challenging but comforting and be open about your experience as it unfolds.

I practice from my own room in NR6, Norwich, with parking available. I offer a safe, nurturing, non-judgemental counselling relationship. I work with clients to explore the issues that bring them to counselling, make them feel unhappy, unsatisfied or overwhelmed; exploring and working towards understanding these issues, and their responses to them. Our unhappiness may be triggered by any number of things beyond our control, but we can change how we think and the views we hold, through increased self-awareness. Couples work looks at exploring issues in a safe and emotionally containing environment to work towards mutual resolution.

Here, I offer a respectful and compassionate space. A space where ways of thinking and feeling can be examined, perhaps old patterns of behaviour no longer feel good to you? Are relationships becoming destructive? Are your boundaries being broken? You may have experienced a loss or a life changing event and need support and space to unpack and understand where you are now. My aim for my work with my clients is to help them understand what is important for them, to assist and empower clients, to be alongside them as they navigate change or discomfort or something else?

I specialise in trauma and sexual abuse, which I have done for the last five years.
Hello, my name is Danny and I am a Counsellor based in Norwich. Starting counselling can feel challenging, and you may not know what to expect from your counsellor, or what their expectations are of you. My style of working is relaxed and informal. I’ll bring my authenticity to the room, and that’s all I ask of you. Through my personal and clinical experience, i’ve seen people get lost trying too hard or finding where they belong. This can also be seen in unhelpful behaviours where you try to fit in. I have a lot of success with clients going back to basics of who you are as an individual and not how you are for others.

I specialise in working with OCD, trauma ( PTSD), anxiety disorders, and self-esteem related issues.
Sessions can be online or face to face near Norwich (or a mixture of both). We would start with a period of getting to know you and understand what has brought you to therapy. From there, we’ll work together to develop a plan which fits your needs and goals. I offer both brief and longer-term therapy so we can tailor our plan to suit what you can commit to.

As a BABCP (British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies) accredited therapist I am confident and qualified to work with a variety of difficulties such as anxiety, phobias or trauma.
My clients have told me that they valued the warmth and acceptance I show in my sessions, which is something I am intensely proud of. Other feedback also highlighted my skills at explaining the rationale behind therapy - helping translate scientific research and therapeutic models into practical skills that make sense for your own situation and context. New clients have fed back to me that I was especially warm and welcoming, helping to normalise and validate difficulties that they have been struggling with. Clients who have experienced therapy before said that I was able to bring insight and understanding to therapy.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
