I provide 1:1 sessions to adults over 18 years of age, experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties, such as anxiety (including health anxiety, social anxiety and OCD), depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder ( PTSD ), Complex PTSD , low self-esteem and work-related stress.
I am a highly empathic, friendly and professional therapist with over 13 years experience. I utilise traditional CBT & newer '3rd Wave CBT' interventions, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), metacognitive therapy & compassionate mind approach, to offer a flexible and individualised treatment process. I interweave these theories with EMDR and Attachment Informed EMDR. Including acknowledgement and understanding of our internal 'parts' that influence our helpful and less helpful behaviours.

I regularly see clients who are suffering from anxiety, sleep problems, chronic pain, weight issues, stress & worries, IBS, fears & phobias, low mood, emotional issues or PTSD /traumatic memories. People work with me when they haven't been able to free themselves of these issues completely, or at least regain the quality of life they want, through their own efforts or with the assistance of other therapies. Often they feel that they are battling with themselves - and what they want is to find a caring & knowledgeable guide who will help them draw on their own inner resources to experience life differently.

I have a special interest in depression and anxiety disorders such as Generalised Anxiety, OCD, PTSD , Phobias, Social and Health Anxiety.
Deciding to look for therapy is a big step and it takes a lot of courage to ask for help. It can be very overwhleming to try to manage things alone and finding support can begin the process of taking back control. Talking things through in a safe, non-judgemental and collaborative environment can help to clarify what needs to change and enable you to move forward in a postive and achievable way. Please be aware I am now working exclusively online or telephone and cannot currently offer face to face sessions.

I practice from my own room in NR6, Norwich, with parking available. I offer a safe, nurturing, non-judgemental counselling relationship. I work with clients to explore the issues that bring them to counselling, make them feel unhappy, unsatisfied or overwhelmed; exploring and working towards understanding these issues, and their responses to them. Our unhappiness may be triggered by any number of things beyond our control, but we can change how we think and the views we hold, through increased self-awareness. Couples work looks at exploring issues in a safe and emotionally containing environment to work towards mutual resolution.

Have you imagined a life without restricting or feeling out of control around food? A life without anxiety and people or parts of society that make you feel uncomfortable, a burden or lead you to not trust yourself? If you are living a life that does not give you joy and pleasure, or you feel out of control, then I am here to help. Whether you have an eating disorder, anxiety, depression, low self-worth or trauma, I will help you address the root cause and transform your life so that you are alive and thriving rather just existing or surviving. Clients come to me for many reasons, but it’s usually when they have tried hard on their own to cope with past or present situations and things are not working for them. Maybe they’ve had a horrible event happen to them in the past and now this event is making them feel like they are living through it again. Maybe it’s about loss and grieving and when does it stop hurting? Maybe it’s about feelings of anxiety and how this stops them from doing what they want to do. The idea of counselling is that we build a relationship together to work through these issues in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

Where does your inner voice come from? It is helpful? Does it seem to have different agendas depending on the situation? Does it have different voices/tones/strength depending on what you are about to do? Does it taunt you or tempt you? Is it helping you or making you miss out on things? We all carry echoes of our past, for some they are automatic and just 'known' ways to behave/be. For others they can sabotage us, they are no longer helping us. Let's talk about negative thoughts, intrusive thoughts, those thoughts that slide in when you are minding your own business to side swipe you with doubts or temptation.

Asking for help can be a monumental decision that requires a lot of courage. Finding the right therapist can be an equally difficult task. A therapeutic relationship needs to feel safe and collaborative, as it can serve as a foundation for healing.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
