I work with adults who are ADHD, autistic, AuDHD, late diagnosed, self identifying, or wondering whether neurodivergence explains why life has felt harder than it should. Many come to me with burnout, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, rejection sensitivity, procrastination, people pleasing, masking, low self worth, relationship struggles, or the exhaustion of always trying to keep up. I help clients make sense of their patterns, understand their nervous system, build emotional regulation, reduce self-blame, and develop practical ways forward that fit their real life, work, relationships, energy, capacity, and needs.

I believe that mental health difficulties are meaningful and understandable reactions to painful life events and situations, and so these are best treated with compassion, curiosity and respect. In this way, we may not only overcome problems, but gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and our values, leading to a more balanced, fulfilling and enjoyable life. With a warm, caring approach to creating safe and reflective relationships, I can offer brief, focused therapy to build coping skills and overcome specific problems, or more in-depth work to build insight and release ingrained ways of being.

You may be a neurodivergent adult, part of a neurodivergent couple, or supporting a neurodivergent loved one, feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or stuck despite having tried many approaches already. You might be struggling with anxiety, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, work or health challenges, or feeling worn down by repeated misunderstandings. You want clarity, understanding, and support that recognises neurodivergence and works with your differences, rather than trying to change who you are.

I am trained in a variety of approaches, for instance CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), Solution-Focused, Mindfulness, Psychosynthesis, Compassion-Focused Therapy for Trauma, and Systemic Therapy for couples and families.
I work with relationship issues, identifying difficult dynamics between couples and family members, and ways to resolve them. In my trauma focused therapy I am attentive to ways in which the past continues to play out intrusively in the present and the coping strategies we develop. Then they can be reviewed and revised to help us lead more fulfilling lives.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or caught in patterns that no longer make sense to you. Anxiety, low mood, trauma, or persistent overthinking may be affecting your relationships, work, or sense of self. You might appear to be functioning on the outside, yet feel internally exhausted or disconnected.
Many people I work with are thoughtful, capable, and self-aware, but feel frustrated that they continue to struggle despite trying hard to cope, or having therapy before that didn’t fully address the problem. You may be seeking a deeper understanding of what is driving your difficulties, alongside practical ways to create change.

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
