Being neurodivergent, I have a special interest in working with clients who are neurodivergent (diagnosed or not) and those who identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community .
I am only able to take online clients at present. Finding yourself on here means you have taken that first, and most likely scary, step towards seeking counselling. You may be experiencing ongoing issues (of any kind) or an unsettled period in your life and are looking for a safe environment to talk about and understand what you are experiencing. I am a qualified person-centred counsellor, but more than that, I am someone with a wealth of life experiences behind me. I believe that the combination of my training and these life experiences have helped me become a person who can offer empathy and compassion to those facing challenges.

Although each person’s situation is unique, some of the many issues I work with include: bereavement and other losses; exploring gender, sex and relationship diversity, and offering an affirming approach to LGBTQ+ clients; chronic illness and disability; relationship issues; the impact of the pandemic and COVID-19.
Are you feeling anxious or struggling? This could be through a bereavement, or difficulties in a relationship. Perhaps health issues such as chronic illness, disability or menopause have affected how you are feeling. Maybe work is causing you stress, or you have been made redundant. Do you feel misunderstood or not heard? Maybe you don’t have somewhere you feel supported to be yourself and to speak freely. Perhaps you feel like you don't have anyone to talk to who understands. You may need a place to be heard and to explore your feelings.

I specialise in working with LGBT, transgender and queer communities.
We might find times in our lives when we are struggling to cope, feel anxious and depressed, lost and hopeless, or feel unhappy in relationships. Therapy can be a place to make sense of experiences both past and present, exploring repeated patterns that keep us stuck and prevent us from making the changes we would like to in life. My style of working is collaborative, where we explore together, in a supportive, confidential and non-judgemental space, the difficulties that you are currently facing.

I have ADHD, Autism and I am bisexual.
Are you struggling to work out who you are, feeling othered, the odd one out, having different views about society? Are you using behaviours involving food - bingeing, restricting, avoiding, exercising or being sick as a mask for feelings? You may have sought external validation through diagnoses e.g. ADHD, Autism, BPD, OCD, CPTSD to name but a few. You may have had different types of therapy before. You are longing for an answer to your eating difficulties, trauma or identity. You hide behind a mask of anxiety - maybe 'high functioning'? You may be unsure of where you sit on the gender and/or sexuality spectrum

A warm welcome to you. If loss, anxiety, relationship trauma or struggles with neurodivergence have led you to be looking on this site for help, then I want to start by offering my compassion and affirmation.  You've taken the first step. You might be looking from one counsellor to another, wondering who to choose. I hope you feel reassured and grounded by my profile. The way you and I would work together would of course be led by you and your needs, but as a highly trained counsellor, I always hold your relationships at the core of my person-centred working style.

I am an experienced and qualified counsellor and psychotherapist. I offer therapy in a supportive but also challenging environment to encourage exploration and understanding of your personal issues. During the process you will be listened to and I will provide insight into what is happening. Sadly there is no magic fix, I can't prescribe pills or potions or tell you what to do. I have experience counselling in private practice, the NHS and charities. This has given me a variety of experience working with a wide range of people with many different issues.

Life can get pretty tough. You may feel stuck, directionless and generally dissatisfied. Or you may be struggling with something specific, a difficult situation, anxiety or circumstances that feel overwhelming and out of control. Likewise, you might be experiencing difficulties in relationships, feel isolated or struggling with the way you see/feel about yourself in one way or another. Any of these may be a signal that it’s time to look beyond yourself to help make sense of your feelings or situation and find some kind of resolution. This is where I may be able to help.

LGBTQ+ Counsellors

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialised training, either during their degree programme or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalisation in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialised training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
