Relationship and intimacy focused therapy can feel like the last attempt. You've tried everything else or its gotten to point where change doesn't sound possible. But that's where I come in, and help you work through these challenges to gain the clarity you need to move in the direction you need. Not everyone is in a relationship when they come and see me, they may be processing old relationships or look towards the future. Whether you're an individual, couple or polyamorous group I can help you work through relationship dynamics, to, sexual issues, and more.

Counselling is an opportunity to explore difficult feelings and to talk about personal issues, in an environment that is confidential. To work through difficulties - such as relationships, childhood trauma and bereavement. This can be a tiring and difficult process but it creates the possibility for change and enables us, together, to move towards a more comfortable way of being. Integrative psychotherapeutic counselling is “a combined approach that brings together different elements of specific therapies. Integrative therapists take the view that there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations”

Perhaps you’ve found yourself here because you’re exhausted by the way life feels right now. You may be living with anxiety, overthinking, low self-esteem, grief, relationship difficulties, burnout, or the pressures of caring for others. Maybe you’re living with chronic illness or pain and carrying far more than those around you realise. Whatever has brought you here, I want you to know one thing: you matter. If you’ve lost hope, that’s okay. Until you’re ready to find it again, I’ll hold hope in your capacity to heal, grow and move forward.

Welcome! My guess is that getting started can be pretty scary to talk to someone you don't know about things that make you feel uncomfortable, sad, angry, overjoyed or embarrassed, but i would like to reassure you that this process is here to help you grow. There are certain elements necessary in therapy to maintain a space of positivity, growth and healing, but you are not responsible for maintaining those elements - that is the job of the therapist - my job. It is imperative that we maintain a judgement free space that is challenging but comforting and be open about your experience as it unfolds.

I am interested in finding out who you are at the deepest levels. It doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what you’ve seen, or where you’re at right now. I want to understand — and I want to help you understand your self. Because the self is waiting to be witnessed and acknowledged. I work with anxiety, relationship patterns, low self-worth, trauma, and the places where something keeps repeating.

Are you anxious/depressed/stressed/unhappy? Maybe you know the issue and don't want to feel this way any more? Even if you don't exactly know what is wrong, we will work with you to find out the cause so that you can live a happier, more contented life. We aim to get to the root of the problem so that the change is permanent. If you haven't had counselling before, or feel nervous about it, please call me for an informal chat. Counselling can be (and often is) a life changing experience. We suggest a 1st session, by the end of which you will know if you want to carry on. If you are a couple we have a specialist. Feel free to call.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Counsellors
How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?
Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioural therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behaviour therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioural, dialectical behaviour, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioural and dialectical behaviour therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.

Are there specific medications for dissociation?
There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom which may include antipsychotics, antidepressants, or anti-anxiety drugs.

How often and how long are therapy sessions?
Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
