I am trained in transactional analysis, an approach for understanding behaviour and promoting emotional change, and CBT ( cognitive behaviour therapy), but I am also an integrative psychotherapist, which means I work together with my clients to find the best therapeutic approach that meets your needs and goals in life.
Making the decision to be in therapy can be life-changing. It is important to be able to express ourselves in a non-judgmental, safe, open, and confidential environment. I have been working for many years with people who come to me to talk about a variety of issues. All of these conversations highlight people's desire to improve their quality of life, whether by becoming more confident, finding direction or purpose in life, improving relationships, changing unhelpful behaviours, feeling happier, or developing new skills in life.

I use my background in person-centred counselling to enhance the therapy I provide however my focus of treatment is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy ( CBT ).
We all go through difficulties at times and sometimes can feel out of our depth and in need of a helping hand. I believe our past experiences can shape how we feel and respond in any given situation and can keep us trapped in negative cycles and unsure of a way out. I want to help you overcome these difficulties and find a way forward to start reaching your goals. Please do not feel you have to go through this alone or that things can’t change. Let’s work together to see how we can understand things and make things better for the future. I have worked in a variety of settings including NHS, private and hospitals for over 10 years.

After suffering all my life from gut issues, and enjoying 5 years of remission (so far), I'm passionate to empower you with the most up-to-date, science-backed, practical support, using a combination of CBT (BABCP accredited), Mindfulness (MBCT), and mind-body therapy (SIRPA), to give you the freedom to live the life you deserve and desire.
Are you struggling with IBS? Always worrying about where the nearest loo is? Or what is safe to eat? You are not alone! Approximately 10% of the world does too. Unfortunately, we aren't always fully informed about all our treatment options. If you notice your gut symptoms are often worse when you are stressed, busy, or worrying, then a psychological approach can help. Did you know that IBS is now recognised as a Gut-Brain Axis condition, rather than a functional gut problem? This means it's necessary to address the mind, body, and the connection between them to enable you to take control of your stress, your bowels, and your life.

My doctorate training specialised in cognitive , psychodynamic, behavioural and systemic theory and application meaning I have a broad skillset to draw on.
I have been lucky enough in my career to date to work with some incredibly inspiring and brave individuals who have been at a crossroads in their life. Sometimes making change felt frightening or impossible due to past beliefs, stuck patterns of behaviour or limiting thought processes. Others were struggling to move on after devastation, illness, loss or identity crisis. I believe it is a privilege to be able to guide those in need at these times due to the courage and vulnerability they show. They are asking from the heart for a new beginning - to break from the past, not feel scared by the future and live truly in the present.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario (catastrophizing) or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
