The reasons we seek counselling are many and varied. Sometimes there is a sudden loss or trauma, but sometimes there are layers of difficult experiences where one more is too many, and we can become overwhelmed. These may be current events or traumatic experiences from long ago that continue to affect life today. We may begin to distance ourselves from friends and family as we try to make sense of difficult feelings and emotions alone. Perhaps because we don't want to burden others or from unresolved or misplaced feelings of guilt or shame. Reaching out for support can be difficult, but contacting me is easy, please get in touch.

Are you struggling with life or feeling overwhelmed and unable to move forward? You may be experiencing loss through bereavement , illness, job loss or broken relationships. You might be finding it difficult to cope with anxiety, low mood, sadness or feelings of isolation or hopelessness. Perhaps there is no-one in your life who you can talk to about your situation.

I have experience working with Anxiety, Depression (including low self-esteem), Bereavement and Trauma; including adult survivors of childhood trauma and neglect.
Hello, and welcome to my page. Life can be difficult at times and we may need someone to talk to about our overwhelming feelings, or help us with logical thinking. We can get stuck in a negative cycle, or have a deep sense of being lost, alone, different or unsure of who we are. There maybe something current that you are struggling with and need space to talk about, or there might be something historical you would like help to understand. As a relational practitioner I believe that a safe and supportive environment is an important part of the healing process and will form the foundations of our work together.

As a mature experienced counsellor also qualified to train others, I can help you with anxiety, depression, bereavement and a host of relationship based problems.
You will be looking for help with making some sense out of what is not working in your life...whether its work related, family related, or relationship related...willing to work honestly and to be challenged...you will be hoping for an empathic and non judgemental approach...and will be prepared to focus on how you and I can work together to bring about the changes that you need in your life. You will be open to new ideas and new ways of working on old problems, even if the journey feels rather scary! You won't be alone in this process.

There are many reasons why you may be experiencing distress or emotional disturbance. This could be anxiety, fear, depression, loneliness, low self-esteem. You may be experiencing a transition of some kind or feeling overwhelmed. You may have experienced a trauma or a bereavement . You may have a nagging sense of unidentifiable unhappiness and malaise. Counselling can give you an opportunity to explore and reflect on these feelings. The experience of being heard and understood can provide some immediate relief.

I offer a space where old ways of thinking and feeling can be examined, challenged and understood, perhaps old patterns of behaviour no longer serve you? Are relationships becoming destructive? Does your current lifestyle need consideration? Are your boundaries constantly being broken? You may have suffered a loss or a life changing event and need support and space to unpick and understand. Whatever your therapeutic needs, even if we don't yet know what change might look like, I know it can feel scary. Counselling is a fluid and ever evolving process of internal learning, but always focused on what you bring to therapy.

I have worked as a Bereavement Support Volunteer as part of my training, so I have an interest in bereavement and loss .
The decision to seek counselling, for you or your child, can be nerve-wracking. Sometimes things happen in our lives that make us feel broken or as if we’ve lost our sense of identity. We might feel like we will never feel okay again. Counselling is focused on the client's emotional journey, with their feelings at the heart of it. Working in a safe and non-judgemental space that offers acceptance and care can help my clients connect with their true selves and find their inner strength. If that’s what you feel you or your child needs, please look through this profile to see if I can help.

I work with a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, life changes, addiction, relationships, loss , trauma and bereavement .
We might find times in our lives when we are struggling to cope, feel anxious and depressed, lost and hopeless, or feel unhappy in relationships. Therapy can be a place to make sense of experiences both past and present, exploring repeated patterns that keep us stuck and prevent us from making the changes we would like to in life. My style of working is collaborative, where we explore together, in a supportive, confidential and non-judgemental space, the difficulties that you are currently facing.

I may also share some suggestions and techniques along the way, to help support you in day to day life. Using a combination of therapeutic approaches; including counselling, visualisation and relaxation techniques, CBT and mindfulness, I aim to support you in feeling calmer, and more able and prepared to make the changes you are seeking.

Clients bring a variety of presenting issues like depression, anxiety and grief . They also bring issues related to anger or passivity or trust. They often feel their lives lack meaning or they find themselves lost and need some time and space to re-orientate. Many of my clients are tipped into therapy because of a relationship breakdown or challenge as this can be a major catalyst for change. Other longer-term clients are struggling with a path into mid life and have reached a stage where they can no longer put off changes they somehow know are destined to come.

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
