Attachment-based Counselling in Norwich
I believe our relationship is central to the work. I believe healing happens through a safe, respectful, and genuine connection. Our relationship isn’t just a background to the work, it’s an important part of the therapy itself.
I don’t believe one single approach fits everyone. I draw from different therapeutic approaches to suit your individual needs.
I also believe our past experiences influence how we think, feel, and relate. Together we can explore these deeper layers and patterns shaping your life at a pace that feels safe, supporting real and lasting change.

It can feel daunting to seek therapy, but it helps to have someone alongside you while you are struggling. I will provide a compassionate space, and we can work together to explore your current difficulties, and to try to understand them better. Therapy can be difficult, but all of your feelings and moods will be met with empathy and curiosity, as meaningful clues to help me understand your experience of living. We will take things at your pace. As we explore your emotions and experiences, and make connections, you might begin to understand more about yourself. If unconscious patterns emerge, new choices can start to be made.

I work with adults who are ADHD, autistic, AuDHD, late diagnosed, self identifying, or wondering whether neurodivergence explains why life has felt harder than it should. Many come to me with burnout, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, rejection sensitivity, procrastination, people pleasing, masking, low self worth, relationship struggles, or the exhaustion of always trying to keep up. I help clients make sense of their patterns, understand their nervous system, build emotional regulation, reduce self-blame, and develop practical ways forward that fit their real life, work, relationships, energy, capacity, and needs.

I work integratively, drawing on relational, psychodynamic, attachment-based and trauma-aware approaches.
If you feel like you’ve lost your footing in your relationships or your own skin, you don’t have to steady yourself alone. I offer a calm, down-to-earth space to untangle complex patterns and find your way back to yourself.
I have a particular interest in how early family roles, especially those shaped by sibling relationships, continue to influence the adults we become. Whether you were the “responsible” eldest, the peacemaker, or the one who felt overlooked, these patterns often echo in our relationships today.

Growing up is hard, and today’s world brings extra pressures for children and teens. Emotional struggles can show up as difficult behavior, anxiety, or unhealthy ways of coping, and it’s often hard for children to express what’s inside. I support families at every stage: from infancy (0–2), through parent-infant psychotherapy to help babies and parents build secure, nurturing connections, to older children and teens, providing tailored support to process emotions, develop coping skills, strengthen relationships, and feel understood in a safe and creative space.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
