I have experience working with
Anxiety
, Depression (including low self-esteem), Bereavement and Trauma; including adult survivors of childhood trauma and neglect.
Hello, and welcome to my page. Life can be difficult at times and we may need someone to talk to about our overwhelming feelings, or help us with logical thinking. We can get stuck in a negative cycle, or have a deep sense of being lost, alone, different or unsure of who we are. There maybe something current that you are struggling with and need space to talk about, or there might be something historical you would like help to understand. As a relational practitioner I believe that a safe and supportive environment is an important part of the healing process and will form the foundations of our work together.

Often unspoken about is Sleep Paralysis which can be a common feature of trauma and
anxiety
and is a key area of my interest and work.
If you are here, you are looking for a way to understand your feelings. Our emotions can be challenging, but they provide essential information about who we are in our world. Conflicts, confusion and
anxiety
often indicate internal struggles with our congruence, that we are out of harmony with what we want and what we are doing. Understanding these driving forces can relieve this
anxiety
; a deeper understanding of yourself can restore that balance. I am here to listen to the challenges that you face. As a hypnotherapist and counsellor, I use a mixture of tools to help you work through and understand how you feel.

I regularly see clients who are suffering from
anxiety
, sleep problems, chronic pain, weight issues, stress & worries, IBS,
fears
& phobias, low mood, emotional issues or PTSD/traumatic memories. People work with me when they haven't been able to free themselves of these issues completely, or at least regain the quality of life they want, through their own efforts or with the assistance of other therapies. Often they feel that they are battling with themselves - and what they want is to find a caring & knowledgeable guide who will help them draw on their own inner resources to experience life differently.

Clients, both men and women, come to me for many reasons, but it’s usually when they have tried hard on their own to cope with past or present situations, and things are just not working for them. Men can be less likely to seek therapy than women, but it’s just as important for men to take care of their mental health too. Therapy can help anyone achieve better mental health, improve relationships and address work issues, such as
anxiety
and dealing with pressure. Perhaps all that’s needed is a space to talk. With counselling, we can build a relationship together and work through these issues in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

anxiety
(including health
anxiety
, social
anxiety
and OCD), depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex PTSD, low self-esteem and work-related stress.
I am a highly empathic, friendly and experienced professional therapist with over 14 years experience. I offer an accepting & safe space to help clients overcome the barriers that stop them living life the way they want to. I utilise traditional CBT & newer '3rd Wave CBT' interventions, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), metacognitive therapy & compassionate mind approach, to offer a flexible and individualised treatment process. I interweave these theories with EMDR and Attachment Informed EMDR. Including acknowledgement and understanding of our internal 'parts' that influence our helpful and less helpful behaviours.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
