I also support clients with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, neurodiversity, addiction, bereavement, PTSD and the lasting effects of abuse and neglect.
Life can be complex and the relationships we have with our partners, families and ourselves can sometimes leave us feeling stuck, disconnected or overwhelmed. I work with individuals and couples facing challenges such as anxiety, trauma, loss, life transitions, communication difficulties, identity and relationship struggles. Together we create a collaborative, honest and compassionate space to explore patterns, deepen understanding and find new ways of moving forward.

My specialisms include, substance misuse, addiction, attachment issues, personality disorders (BPD) Bipolar disorder, ADHD, Autism, OCD anxiety and depression, and CPTSD.
Welcome! My guess is that getting started can be pretty scary to talk to someone you don't know about things that make you feel uncomfortable, sad, angry, overjoyed or embarrassed, but i would like to reassure you that this process is here to help you grow. There are certain elements necessary in therapy to maintain a space of positivity, growth and healing, but you are not responsible for maintaining those elements - that is the job of the therapist - my job. It is imperative that we maintain a judgement free space that is challenging but comforting and be open about your experience as it unfolds.

I am interested in finding out who you are at the deepest levels. It doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what you’ve seen, or where you’re at right now. I want to understand — and I want to help you understand your self. Because the self is waiting to be witnessed and acknowledged. I work with anxiety, relationship patterns, low self-worth, trauma, and the places where something keeps repeating.

I offer a safe, non‑judgemental space where you can talk openly and feel understood. I’m a compassionate, person‑centred therapist trained in CBT, but I adapt to the person in front of me. I specialise in Anxiety, especially Panic, Worry and Phobia (including Emetophobia), and often support people who found pure CBT treatment packages too rigid. I also bring lived experience of depression, anxiety and ADHD, so I meet you with empathy and real understanding. It can be hard to find a therapist that you can click with, so the best way to see if we're a good fit is to have a free, no-obligations short chat over the phone.

Hello, I'm Jim, and I want to thank you for taking the time to visit my profile. Asking for help can be a monumental decision that requires a lot of courage. Finding the right therapist can be an equally difficult task. A therapeutic relationship needs to feel safe and collaborative, as it can serve as a foundation for healing.

Clients bring issues like depression, anxiety, grief, anger and passivity. They maybe experiencing a major life transition (e.g. mid age / relationship breakdown) that feels too much to face alone or/and has triggered issues that now need attention. I provide integrative psychotherapy in Norwich and NR10, drawing from evidence based methods to support the whole person - including attachment informed methods, humanistic and cognitive techniques, internal family systems. My approach is also psychodynamic, so we explore patterns rooted in early relationships and how they might still play out, even within the therapy relationship.

Counselling is an opportunity to explore difficult feelings and to talk about personal issues, in an environment that is confidential. To work through difficulties - such as relationships, childhood trauma and bereavement. This can be a tiring and difficult process but it creates the possibility for change and enables us, together, to move towards a more comfortable way of being. Integrative psychotherapeutic counselling is “a combined approach that brings together different elements of specific therapies. Integrative therapists take the view that there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations”

Addiction Counsellors
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
