Many of the people I work with are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or the lasting impact of childhood trauma. They often feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected, and long for clarity, inner peace, and healthier relationships. My clients come to therapy because they want to better understand themselves, heal old wounds, and find more effective ways to cope and grow. At the heart of their journey is a desire to feel more grounded, fulfilled, and hopeful about the future.

My aim is to support the needs of my client, through listening to their issues and establishing a way of problem solving. I cover a variety of issues that include anxiety, depression, separation and loss, relationship difficulties, post-traumatic stress disorder. Additionally, I have an interest and experience in supporting families in conflict and domestic abuse. The goal is to identify patterns, develop strategies for managing challenges and for my client to become insightful and change those pattern of behaviours that will lead to healing. At the moment I have one space working with the Arts, low cost. Saturday mornings.

When life gets tough having someone who listens and assists you through the difficult feelings and challenges can enable you to understand what is happening and help you to move forward. Whether you have specific goals, or just need a safe space to talk, let’s explore if therapy may be beneficial. People often come to therapy after grappling with their problems or difficulties for a while and often on their own. Relationship problems, traumas or personal dilemmas are very common in today’s busy world. You do not need to suffer in silence. Talking to a trained therapist may be the first important step towards a more meaningful life.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I draw from a range of evidence-based modalities to tailor therapy to the unique needs of each individual. My approach is rooted in the belief that no single method fits all, and that healing happens best when therapy meets you where you are—emotionally, mentally, and even somatically. I work collaboratively with clients to explore patterns, build resilience, and reconnect with a sense of self that may feel distant or fractured. Drawing from modalities such as psychodynamic therapy, Person Centered, cognitive-behavioral approaches (CBT), mindfulness-based practices, and somatic awareness.

I provide a space where you can truly be yourself; to be seen and heard free of judgement. Therapy provides an opportunity to explore who you are at your core, and how you relate to your unique life experiences and the world around you. The relationship with yourself is the longest you will ever have. At times it can be the most difficult with symptoms of anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, attachment wounds, and life stressors. I work flexibly with your unique strengths and circumstances to help you make progress. There may be specific concerns or more general overall improvements you want to make.

Sometimes life can seem overwhelming and we can be dealing with something painful. We all have times when we need emotional support. You do not have to struggle alone. Often it is only when we talk to someone unconnected with our lives that we begin to hear what we are really saying and feeling. I offer a safe, unjudgemental and confidential space for you to work through what is troubling you and will support you as you find new ways forward.

To make the decision to access the therapy can be emotional process. The Initial Consultation that I offer is the beginning of exploring the issues and seeing whether you would like to work with me. Are you quietly masking anxiety? You may overthink conversations, replay situations repeatedly, and feel mentally exhausted while still appearing fine to everyone around you. Your mind rarely switches off, constantly scanning for certainty, approval, reassurance, or possible mistakes. You might people-please, put others before yourself, struggle to say no, or avoid conflict just to keep the peace. A fear of rejection can make you highly sensitive to tone, silence, distance, or subtle changes in behaviour. Over time, these patterns can blur boundaries, increase self-doubt, and drain your emotional energy.

I offer a kind, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space for you to come in and talk about whatever is on your mind, whether it's things that happened a long time ago or something that's happened this past week. I'll work to ensure that you feel safe to explore whatever is on your mind, knowing that sometimes you may process difficult memories or situations quickly, or it might take some time. Our work together will happen in the way that feels right to you, and I will support you as we move forward. I'm not judging my clients, I'm not easily shocked, and I don't mind if you swear - sometimes there's really only one word for it!

Feeling lost? What if you could journey back to the parts of yourself that have been forgotten? Together, we can explore the lost aspects of your identity that can contribute to who you are today. Embarking on a journey of self-discovery involves peeling away layers of hidden rules, ancestral patterns, and past traumas. In this process, we uncover the "buried gold" within—those precious sparks of your true self that may have been hidden away to fit in or avoid rejection.

Working with a therapist can sometimes feel daunting, but I will guide you through the process, listen to your reasons for seeking therapy, and address any concerns you may have. We will also discuss what you hope to achieve and any specific areas you would like to focus on. By gaining insight into how we relate to others, whether with friends, family, colleagues, or romantic partners and reflecting on the various stages of life we’re navigating, we can begin to form a clearer understanding of our true selves.

We go to the dentist to check and care for our teeth and the optician to check and care for our eyes; why not prioritise our minds - the most important part of us. The decision to go to therapy could be following a life event, because something doesn’t feel right or because we feel stuck in life and in these moments, it can be powerful to explore it further. I support a wide range of issues including stress, anxiety, relationship problems, loss, trauma, depression and problems with confidence or self-esteem.

I'm a Senior Clinical Psychologist specialising in working with self-esteem, anxiety and trauma, with people from all backgrounds. Many come to me for challenges with self-criticism, struggling in relationships, struggling with overthinking, experiencing burnout or simply feeling overwhelmed by their day to day lives. In my 10 years of experience I’ve learnt that our difficulties often stem from past painful experiences. My approach focuses on deepening our understanding of the impact of what we have been through, processing past memories and working towards goals which support us to live lives which are aligned with our values.

I truly believe we all have the capacity to be the best version of ourselves. Learning to like yourself is the first step. I am an Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, drawing from the person-centred and psychodynamic models of therapy. I have first-hand experience of the benefits of therapy and that led me to train as a therapist. My journey began as a desire to support individuals with their mental health, leading me to establish my solo practice focused on personalised counselling. I also work for a local hospice as a Bereavement counsellor. Check out my website www.alisonlutzcounselling.co.uk for more information.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
