I have experience working with young people with a range of issues, such as anxiety, depression, self harm, low self esteem, issues with body image, relationship/ friendship issues, school issues, family conflicts, sexuality and gender identity.
I feel that traditional 'talk' therapy can be quite intimidating for some young people, so where appropriate, l offer a range of creative interventions such as crafts, activities and games to help the young person relax and start to explore their worries.

Therapy can help us identify thinking and behaviour patterns, address past and present traumas, cope with everyday fears and anxieties, and learn ways to better relate to and understand ourselves, our environments, and other people.
I believe the goal of therapy is to improve lived experience and help us to feel safe, confident, and content in mind and body. As a Forensic Psychologist, I have extensive experience working with adults and young people in private and public sectors in the UK and Pakistan using a variety of evidence based therapeutic and supervision models.

I am an Integrative counsellor which means that I use a variety of counselling approaches dependant on your needs and what you want to achieve in the counselling process. Throughout the process you decide what you want to talk about and the pace you want to go. I will listen to you and help you to express and understand your emotions. Sometimes I use writing, drawing and toys to help you express difficult emotions. I have experience in helping people who want to talk through issues of Spirituality, especially their Christian faith.

We may use different words to describe what's going on for us when we are looking for therapy: unsure, fed up, low, empty, frustrated, anxious, panicky, over-thinking, unable to sleep, too sensitive, or like can't carry on...
We will talk and I will support you in making changes that you want, understanding yourself and others, gaining clarity about your feelings and thoughts. Things will start making more sense. Therapy will help to refresh your view of reality and what matters to you. It helps to re-evaluate some habits, relationships, decisions and choices for a better life.

Maybe you've been feeling anxious, sad, lonely or stuck?
As a woman, do you put other people's needs above your own and find it difficult to say no? Maybe it's hard to say how you really feel or to ask for what you need? Do you find being nice all the time and avoiding upsetting anyone could be taking it’s toll, especially when you already feel stressed and overwhelmed by the many roles and relationships in your life? I wonder what life would look like if you felt calmer and more confident in yourself? How would it change your personal relationships and your life in general? What would it feel like to be able to voice what it is you want? It's certainly challenging being a woman today.

I have worked with many adults and young people who come to me with symptoms of depression and anxiety.
If you have come to a point in your life where things have become too much and you feel you or a member of your family need some extra support, then counselling is a great way to reach out. Through building an honest and trustworthy relationship, I aim to help my clients understand and overcome their difficulties whilst developing tools to help them in the future. I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw from a number of different approaches to counselling. This allows for an open space where we can explore different ideas and find what works best for you. This may include creative work, looking at theory, or mindfulness.

For people who are facing depression, anxiety or struggling with ASD/ADHD or other mental health issues could be very lonely, the society still have stigma for that.
I completed my undergraduate degree in the UK before returning to Hong Kong for further studies. I then obtained my Master of Arts in Professional Counseling in the United States. Three years ago, I relocated to the UK to continue my practice as a therapist. I believe that clients are the experts of their own lives. My role as a therapist is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where they can explore solutions or gain new perspectives. I am committed to supporting and encouraging my clients as they navigate their challenges, empowering them when they need it most.

I work with people who have experienced difficult/abusive childhoods, bereavement, loss, anxiety or low mood, and have done so for over 25 years, initially as a qualified social worker and now as a qualified counsellor.
In addition to having my counselling qualification, I also have a qualification in Imagery Rescripting, which is an intervention for adults who experienced childhood trauma. I presently counsel one day a week in a school with neurodivergent students, volunteer one morning a week at a community counselling service, and have my private practice in Canterbury.

Sometimes change can lead to anxiety, low self esteem or depression.
I understand how difficult it can be to express emotions and fears and this can be particularly so for younger people. I have developed different techniques to help overcome this and have an affinity for, and experience of, working with teenagers and young adults. However, I have a wide range of experience and enjoy working with people of all ages.

In that time, I've helped people move through challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, separation, addiction.
I see therapy as a way to better understand the narratives of our lives and the stories we believe about ourselves. These may have been created as a result of early experiences, the society and culture we live in, or any other reason we're yet to discover. Therapy is a chance to explore your narrative in a confidential and creative space. Sometimes it's a case of reclaiming your story perhaps after a shock event, sometimes it's about redefining your story if life feels like it has drifted off course. Either way, therapy can help you confront whatever problems you have with confidence and the results can be life changing.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
