If you find yourself facing life's challenges such as bereavement, depression, marriage breakdown, relationship problems, anxiety, then counselling can help.
In my integrative approach to counselling I combine my Humanistic and Psychodynamic skills. In doing this, I am able to tailor my approach to the specific needs of my client. This enables my client to gain a better understanding and make sense of their situation, become more self aware and gives them confidence to make changes in their life.

As an integrative, systemic psychologist, I can pick-up where many other therapies end, offering a variety of trauma-sensitive interventions to unlock & processes entrenched conflict & distress within individuals, couples, families and broader systems.
With 25yrs experience, I now seek to work with three main client groups. 1) Clients who've reached a deeper understanding of their issues, symptoms & diagnoses (via therapy &/or self-help etc), but have found that these insights have not been sufficient to end their distress. 2) Parents/carers/educators struggling with youngsters who can be violent or self-destructive, for whom traditional reward & punishment approaches fail to help (or indeed actually escalate the problem). 3) Parent-child reluctance/refusal dynamics. I can help parents who are experiencing, ‘parental alienation’, and equally, those being falsely accused of it.

The client is the most important person in a counselling relationship, my job is to help you feel valued, and understood so you also believe this.
I offer my clients a benevolent, warm, judgement-free space. From time to time, we all need help to get back on track. I help my clients to normalise their feelings, helping them understand that it is ok to not be ok. My specialism is bereavement, I am comfortable working with death, and I help my clients come to terms with life after loss.

I am a fully qualified integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, offering therapy to adults, young people over 16 and couples.
Hi I’m Chad, Firstly, thank you for being courageous and taking the first step towards finding help, which I know can feel quite scary. I'm a deeply caring and understanding person, firmly believing that we may all need some help at times in our lives and that this can feel daunting. Being heard and understood with no judgement enables and empowers my clients to experience and build their lives as they truly want them.

In the sessions I combine a range of skills, working together with couples and individuals at their own peace.
Psychotherapy is a tool for self-discovery and understanding of self and others. Life is a continuous journey of ups and downs. Understanding ourselves and others better brings resilience and gives us the strength to face challenges. Perhaps you feel you want to discover yourself. Or you are facing new challenges that you want to overcome, control, get a better outcome from them, or get over them. Or maybe you want to make some sense of some old matters that still influence your life, or to take control of some ongoing ones.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
