Hi, I’m Scott. I’m a warm and empathic counsellor who genuinely loves what I do and cares about helping people gain self-awareness and understanding.
Because everyone comes to therapy with a unique story, I believe in tailoring our work completely to you. I work integratively, which means we can adapt our approach to suit your individual needs. If you want to work toward specific goals, that’s great. If you prefer a quiet space to reflect and figure things out slowly, we can absolutely do that too. We can meet in a traditional room, online, by phone or outdoors with a walk by the coast in Tynemouth.

Working in various sectors over the years, I have experience in working with many different issues, for example bereavement and loss, low self esteem, life changes, domestic abuse, issues around identity, culture, sexual violence, anxiety, relationships, employment issues, health or disability, anger, fertility and low mood.
I am trained in different approaches, tailored to suit you. Some clients like creative techniques, e.g. art therapy, imagery, writing or sandtray, or to use EMDR, which helps to shift 'stuck' or intrusive memories. All can be powerful. I encourage open communication and regular reviews to ensure the therapy fits and that you feel safe and heard throughout.

Still saying "I'm fine" when you're really not? "Just keep going" got you this far, but something's shifted and it's costing you more than anyone realises.
You may be wrestling with anxiety, low mood, bereavement, trauma or relationship difficulties — and unsure why the same patterns keep repeating, or why things feel harder than they used to.
You don't need the right words to start. Most people arrive knowing only that something needs to change. That's enough. Whatever's weighing on you, you don't have to carry it alone — and you don't have to have it all figured out before we begin.

Hi, I am Joshua, a professional counsellor and a registered member of the BACP.
I understand how daunting it can feel to look for a counsellor and to work out whether someone will feel like the right fit. My aim is to offer a calm, transparent, and supportive starting point, so you have a clear sense of how I work and what you can expect.
My approach is relational and integrative, with the therapeutic relationship at the centre of meaningful change. I work in a way that recognises how our experiences are held not only in our thoughts, but also in our bodies and in our patterns of relating to others.

Struggling to cope with negative emotions can feel very isolating and, by the nature of some problems, guilt and shame can make us feel stigmatised and prevent us reaching out for support even when its not our fault. People come to counselling for all kinds of reasons from childhood trauma to life events as adults such as divorce, bereavement and stress and what they all have in common is a desire to feel better and begin to enjoy life. Some people find they use alcohol or drugs in an attempt to cope with their feelings but inventively this creates more problems

Anger Management Counsellors
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
