There is no question life is stressful - but the good news is that help is available. You do not have to struggle alone. We all need a neutral, non-judgmental person to talk things through with. I believe that knowing you are not alone, and having that safe place to express your fears, or uncover how the past influences you today, is essential for mental health.

This way of working can be particularly helpful if anxiety, stress or trauma show up physically through tension, fatigue, pain or shutdown.
I work in a gentle, integrative way, bringing together psychotherapy and somatic awareness. This can include inner child and parts work, exploring how protective responses developed and how earlier experiences may still be influencing how you feel in your body today. Sessions are paced carefully, supporting regulation, clarity and reconnection.

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. So, let me share a little about myself. Not just the credentials, but who I am and how I show up in this work, to help you get a sense of whether we might be a good fit. In our sessions, we may talk through your feelings, explore beliefs you’ve been carrying, or look at patterns that no longer feel helpful. There’s no quota you need to meet to start therapy. You don’t need a ‘right reason’ to be here. Therapy can be a space to breathe; it’s a genuine and honest conversation between two people to make sense of your experiences and what they mean to you.

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, panic, low mood, self‑esteem difficulties, relationship concerns, or the impact of trauma and PTSD, you don’t have to navigate it alone.
To support you effectively, I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and EMDR. These approaches help us understand how your difficulties developed and, more importantly, how to move forward. Sometimes one method is the best fit; often, a gentle blend works beautifully. The process is always tailored to you.

I work with clients who may be struggling with anxiety, identity, stress or trauma which can be impacting their relationships.
Hi, I am Susie, a friendly psychotherapist who has experience of working with a diverse range of clients within a confidential environment. For me, the heart of counselling is a good relationship between client and counsellor. This helps to create a safe and respectful setting for exploration, reflection and understanding of what is important to you. As we are all individual and unique, people will naturally need different things from counselling. I use an integrative, person-centred approach which means that we can work together in a way which best suits you, drawing from different techniques which will support you.

Whilst my practice is founded in Gestalt Therapy, the way I work with you is guided by what you need to help you with difficulties you may be facing, personal development you might like to explore or past traumas you want to heal.
If you want to change your situation on the outside, it’s good to start by looking at what you can change on the inside. Perhaps you have serious difficulties finding peace and joy in your life. Your sense of well-being, physically and mentally, may be reduced or destroyed. You might find yourself sliding into unhealthy or even self-destructive behaviours. Your persistent self-doubt leads to anxiety and depression, causing relationship problems and anger issues. You have a feeling that you do not quite know who you are.  Or perhaps you just know “something is not quite right in my life” but you can’t pinpoint what it is.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
