Anxiety Counselling in Newhaven
If you are experiencing Generalised Anxiety Disorder ( GAD), depression, grief/loss, social anxiety and trauma, our mutually agreed treatment plan for your needs can help you gain your sense of self again so that you can start enjoying your life.
I am trained in Transactional Analysis (TA) which is a form of modern psychology that aims to promote personal change and growth using a set of tools. The application of TA tools can be a very effective way of thinking about the unconscious processes that drive our thoughts, feelings and behaviours within any given situation and in all relationships.

Therapy as a space to reconnect, heal, and move towards a more fulfilling life, grounded in a strong and supportive therapeutic relationship, this foundation, I work thoughtfully with difficulties including mood and personality disorders, addiction and substance misuse, perfectionism, attachment-related issues, anxiety and OCD, trauma, grief, loss and shame.
I am a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor, a HCPC-registered Arts Therapist, working in the NHS alongside my private practice. I offer a warm, supportive space where people feel heard, respected, and understood. I work creatively and flexibly, which can be especially helpful when feelings are hard to put into words. Using creative approaches alongside talking therapy can open up new ways of understanding experiences and emotions. My approach is client-centred and non-judgmental, grounded in empathy and unconditional positive regard. I view difficulties not as personal flaws, but as signs of blocked growth and internal conflicts

I am interested in helping people work through painful experiences, both past and present, so they can lead happier and more fulfilling lives.
My clients often come to therapy feeling stuck with something. They might find themselves repeat patterns in their lives that don't lead to happiness. They might feel unfulfilled in love, work or other relationships.
My clients are often looking at other ways to express themselves. Coming to me means that they can talk about their problems, and also use creative modes of expression to deepen their self exploration.

Thank you very much for visiting my page. I am a Person Centred counsellor based in Seaford and I rent a room in the town centre. I aim to offer a safe place which is free of judgement and a positive atmosphere where we can explore whatever you may wish to bring to each session. In return I’ll also offer honesty and transparency to help build our relationship. I endeavour to work with you as an individual and not just on an individual problem. A personal favourite analogy of mine is “I will attempt to put your shoes on and walk with you but I won’t do up the laces”.

I'm a former NHS psychotherapeutic counsellor specialising in adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress and bereavement.
I bring warmth, creativity and empathy to my work. My therapeutic approach is humanistic - this means in our sessions, we explore the significance behind your experiences as you reflect on your own reality. This approach understands that life is full of struggle but also sees the opportunity, hope and freedom our choices can bring us.

You might be struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, or a sense of being lost, unsure who you really are or what you want in life.
I believe we all have a natural capacity for love, creativity and fulfilment, but that difficult experiences, emotional wounds and long-standing patterns can leave us feeling blocked, fragmented or disconnected from who we really are. I offer a space to gently explore these patterns, heal what needs healing, and reconnect with your own inner resources

I hold additional certification in ADHD and neurodiverse training, grief and loss, mother daughter relationships, narcissism, eating disorders, anxiety and PTSD.
Having experienced at first hand the hugely positive impact counselling has had on my own life, I chose to train as a psychodynamic therapist to help others experience the same profound benefits. I now use an integrative approach, which has enriched my work with clients. Working with you, we will together examine and uncover often unconscious or repressed memories which in turn can drive unhelpful patterns of behaviour. We will explore the sources of your problems and aim to deal with the underlying issues, not just try to find a way to cope with them. Only by making peace with the past can you look forward to a happy future.

Do your relationships feel like they are broken and you can’ t seem to find a way to repair them? It could be that you feel you can’t form relationships at all or that if you do, they always seem to break, or something goes wrong. Maybe something traumatic from your childhood still hurts, like a bad toothache that never goes away. Perhaps you just don’t feel good enough about yourself and if only you could feel better, then your relationships would be too. Do you need someone who you can trust, who you feel safe with and who you feel you can share anything in confidence?

I work with clients experiencing common mental health issues including anxiety, low mood, OCD and PTSD.
Clients are all unique but I tend to work best with clients who enjoy a mixture of creative self discovery mixed with self reflection and commitment to personal change. Insights from therapy sessions are best integrated through further thought and action so that the client sees changes. I am committed to working with clients to support them to gain hope and confidence in these changes and themselves.

I am an Integrative Psychotherapist who has worked in depth with both adolescents & adults dealing with a variety of issues; depression, bereavement, sexuality, anxiety, relationships and complex life issues which sometimes cause us distress in our life.
Whilst my work has been wide-ranging, I have particular experience in working with adolescents, members of the LGBT community & people struggling with thoughts around those big existential issues such as finding meaning in life, who am I and that awareness of our own mortality.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
