In a good therapeutic
relationship
you can learn to feel safe, accepted and valued just as you are.
Whatever you're going through, don't go through it alone. People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons: you may want support with a life event or transition, be experiencing anxiety or depression, be feeling dissatisfied in your relationships, or want to better understand yourself and what you want from life. I'm fascinated by the ways we search for meaning in our lives, and I know how amazing and transformative good relationships of all kinds can be, and how painful it can be when we struggle to find or keep them. I'm passionate about helping people learn to relate to themselves, others and the world in the fullest possible way.

A positive
relationship
with your therapist is absolutely paramount to effective change taking place, and an overwhelming amount of evidence shows that the therapeutic
relationship
is more important than the techniques or approach used by the clinician.
Most importantly, I work with people, not diagnoses or labels. I specialise in working with those with a history of trauma, whether that’s one off events such as a car crash, sexual assault or attack, or layers of trauma in the form of childhood neglect/abuse, a military/medical career or an abusive
relationship
. I try to help my patients overcome their ongoing reactions to this trauma, such as nightmares, flashbacks, intrusive memories, high levels of anxiety and poor sleep. I also work with people experiencing moral injury and survivors guilt. Additionally, those experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD and
relationship
issues.

I understand that for some people starting therapy may feel daunting. I am interested in building a strong, supportive
relationship
. My style is warm, genuine, non-judgemental and hopeful. I strongly believe in hope, you may come to therapy feeling ‘hopeless’, if you do, I believe my role is to carry hope, until you are ready to do so yourself. I am interested in people’s stories and finding meaning and making sense of patterns and repetitive unhelpful behaviour. I will encourage self-kindness and quietening internal harsh voices. I may challenge false beliefs about yourself.

I have a special interest in trauma, both childhood and event related incident trauma,
relationship
difficulties, work related stress and self development as well as the symptom relief such as dealing with anxiety and depression.
Hello I'm Nicole, a humanistic integrative psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor with many years experience of working with individuaIs, organisations and groups. Twelve years ago I set up Peel Psychological Consultancy, a private counselling service and training centre in the hope that I'd be able to create a space in which the client felt, respected, accepted, supported and understood. It is my belief that relational trauma lies at the heart of most psychological distress therefore, whilst I adhere to theory and research, it is the therapeutic
relationship
between client and therapist that I find most important and effective.

I believe clients move forward when offered the right environment, conditions and the best therapeutic
relationship
.
I have been a Counsellor / Psychotherapist / Hypnotherapist for over 25years I specialised in the field addiction for many years. Working within addiction offered a wide and varied opportunity to work and become familiar with many client issues. Clients relying upon substances, use as a coping mechanism, however substance use causes further mental health issues which further complicates their ability to cope. I now work solely within private practice based at home where clients can relax in a confidential informal setting. This allows them time explore their own needs in a time frame which meets their own specific needs.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
