Bereavement Counselling in New Milton
I have extensive experience of managing bereavement, anxiety and the symptoms of PTSD.
Do you feel overwhelmed by your thoughts & feelings? Are you feeling anxious? Are you suffering from stress and feel “burnt out”? Do you wonder how to manage those constant thought patterns which go round & round in your head, stopping you from being able to think clearly? What would it feel like to offload and release that pressure without feeling judged or being offered well-meaning advice that just isn’t right for you? Imagine that sense of building upon your self-esteem as you learn to trust your gut feeling and know instinctively what is right for you to enable that change to happen?

I have a background in trauma, abuse, PTSD, bereavement, and ADHD.
Living with difficult thoughts, feelings, and experiences can drain our energy and affect the quality of our lives and relationships. We all need support from time to time, and talking with a therapist in a confidential and supportive setting can help us understand ourselves better and consider what we would like to change in our lives or relationships. My aim in therapy is to offer you a safe space where you can look at what’s going on for you, explore what you want and find ways to manage this and move on.

Do you need to talk to someone will listen without judgement? Are you feeling stressed, unhappy, like you are stuck in repeating patterns? Personal problems, difficult life experiences and relationship issues can create internal conflict, which then gets supressed. You end up putting on a 'mask' to carry on but the problems remain unresolved, continuing to have a detrimental impact on your sense of self and wellbeing. Exploring how you are feeling with a skilled therapist facilitates insight and conscious awareness, which enables you to explore possibilities and find solutions, which then lead to positive change and personal growth.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
