Our therapeutic relationship is based on sensitivity, respect and an appreciation of all issues. Therapy is an opportunity for you to share personal difficulties with a trusted, professional and experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor. Therapy can help you understand the source of any distress or confusion you may be experiencing and if we can understand the reasons for these uncomfortable feelings it can often bring freedom, and the opportunity to consider an alternative way of being.

I have a special interest in trauma, both childhood and event related incident trauma, relationship difficulties, work related stress and self development as well as the symptom relief such as dealing with anxiety and depression.
Hello I'm Nicole, a humanistic integrative psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor with many years experience of working with individuaIs, organisations and groups. Twelve years ago I set up Peel Psychological Consultancy, a private counselling service and training centre in the hope that I'd be able to create a space in which the client felt, respected, accepted, supported and understood. It is my belief that relational trauma lies at the heart of most psychological distress therefore, whilst I adhere to theory and research, it is the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist that I find most important and effective.

We all exist in relationship with others, at home and at work, and the health of these relationships affects our wellbeing. When we're going through a challenging time it can feel really difficult, and working with someone who has supported many others in similar situations is an important part of finding our own way to move forward. I can support you to take some time out of the same old experiences, to invest in yourself so you can be happier and enjoy what life has to offer. It's possible to work with me one to one, as a couple or in a family group.

Welcome - are you going through a difficult time at the moment, and feel like you need to speak to someone other than a friend or family member? If so, please contact me via email or phone, and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have about therapy. I offer brief counselling, which means we would agree on a set amount of sessions, and work within a goal focused framework, and I offer open ended counselling, for those of you that require a longer therapeutic process. Both forms of counselling are beneficial; the length of time you attend counselling is your choice.

Art Therapy utilises the creation of artwork during the session as a means to discuss deeper feelings and concerns within a safe and confidential relationship .
I work with individuals aged 12 and up at the moment. You may have issues with anxiety or trauma and are looking for ways to regulate yourself and work through the trauma. There may be attachment issues established in childhood that have been unhelpful in adulthood. Perhaps you require a confidential place to process distressing things you have experienced, or somewhere to take ownership of your story and change your narrative.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
