I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist offering individual therapy for adults of all ages.
We all have moments in which we feel vulnerable in the stressful world of nowadays. Life is challenging and most of us has experienced how it can become overwhelming. There are moments in life when we may look at our problems as without solutions and asking for help as meaningless. And so we keep going along with things as they are. Throughout psychotherapy, you will have the opportunity to raise issues that are currently on your mind and to acquire awareness and self-confidence, allowing healthier and happier ways of living.

My approach to therapy draws on a variety of theoretical frameworks that include; psychodynamic , humanistic, gestalt and transpersonal.
Sometimes aspects of our life can overwhelm us. Life events such as a bereavement, relationship/family issues, a job loss or isolation can leave us feeling fearful, stressed and unable to cope. We can also feel stuck in certain patterns that we wish to break free from. Talking about all these things can help to bring balance back into our lives and gain a new understanding of ourselves. I aim to make it possible for you to speak about things which you might not have put into words before and ask questions to help you with your thinking. Giving yourself the space to talk openly and be heard can bring about tremendous change within.

My core approach to counselling is Psychodynamic which means I pay attention to unconscious feelings and how past experiences may be influencing your present day to day life.
I am a BACP Accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with experience working with adults. I offer a warm, empathic, non judgemental and confidential space for you to talk freely of your concerns and explore the nature of the difficulties you are experiencing. My aim is to work alongside you to help you gain a deeper understanding in yourself encouraging the healing process. Are you faced with difficulties, feeling angry, sad or anxious? I understand the reason you are seeking counselling may not be in relation to any specific issue. For example, you may want a safe and confidential space to explore your feelings or seek to grow as a person. It is my wish that our sessions together can help you to understand yourself better and provide greater insight and awareness of your presenting issues or life experience. My integrative training allows me to be flexible and adaptable with my approach as I feel that therapy is not a one size fits all endeavour.

Throughout our lives we all experience difficulties and challenges that sometimes we can’t manage on our own. Psychotherapy can be an extremely powerful tool to help us become more aware of who we are and gain a better understanding about our relationships with others and the situations we find ourselves in. My main approach to Psychotherapy draws on psychodynamic and attachment based principles, which involves the idea that thinking about past experiences and early childhood relationships can help make sense of current feelings, experiences, relationships and difficulties.

As an integrative therapist, I work with person-centred and psychodynamic modalities.
My practice is rooted in a deep and genuine interest to help people live more fulfilled lives that they feel in control of. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space where you can freely process whatever life is presenting for you. No problem is ever too big or too small; we just need the will to overcome it. Within everyone sits a strength to cope with life's challenges, and create change in their life. Together, we can explore what is preventing you from accessing that strength, develop the tools to cope in order to live a more fulfilled life, eventually returning to your authentic self.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
