Many of my clients come to therapy because they feel stuck in patterns they cannot shift on their own. You may be living with intense emotions, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, or the impact of trauma. These struggles can leave you exhausted, hopeless, uncertain about who you are, and so overwhelmed that you detach from others. You might long to feel more grounded and confident, more at peace with uncertainty, and with energy to move forward in the areas of life that matter most. I am an experienced Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years’ practice in the NHS and private settings, helping clients move towards lasting change.

Is it difficult for yourself to connect to your emotions and feelings? Sometimes it is complicated to find a link to enable us express freely. Unintentionally, we can create a habit in which we suppress, run away, deny or manipulate our emotions. It is normal to try to push away feelings of discomfort like stress, fear or pain; but there are tools you can learn to help you cope with these emotions in a healthy way. Instead of denying, distracting yourself, manipulating or disconnecting, you can accept, observe, acknowledge and connect deeply with your feelings.

Are you faced with difficulties, feeling angry, sad or anxious? I understand the reason you are seeking counselling may not be in relation to any specific issue. For example, you may want a safe and confidential space to explore your feelings or seek to grow as a person. It is my wish that our sessions together can help you to understand yourself better and provide greater insight and awareness of your presenting issues or life experience. My integrative training allows me to be flexible and adaptable with my approach, as I feel that therapy is not a one size fits all endeavour.

Alongside private practise, I have extensive experience working for The Parenting Project, seeing a range of clients struggling with nuerodiversity, identity issues, post and prenatal depression and anxiety, general anxiety, OCD, PTSD, child abuse and trauma, sexual abuse and depression.
Do you find yourself repeating the same patterns and behaviours? Perhaps for years, even decades? Is the simple act of getting through the day (and night) becoming unmanageable and overwhelming? Or perhaps you feel numb, stuck, confused even? Perhaps you do not even know where to begin or what you are looking for? Are you finally ready to let go of what no longer serves you and embrace challenge, change, and desire - rejuvenating your relationships not only with others, but with yourself?

Hey there, I’m Ciara, a BACP registered integrative counsellor working in a trauma-informed way. I offer a down-to-earth, supportive space where we can make sense of what’s going on without judgement or pressure. The connection between us matters, and I think good therapy comes from feeling safe enough to be yourself and explore things at your own pace. People often come to me when things feel stuck, overwhelming, or confusing, or when they’ve been carrying things on their own for a long time. Together we look at what’s going on in a way that feels practical, grounded, and easier to navigate.

All of the above life events can cause us to feel many confusing emotions such as anxiety, depression or anger. Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
