As an integrative and LGBTQ+ affirming counsellor, I offer a warm, non-judgemental space tailored to your unique experiences. If you’re struggling with anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties or feeling unsure of how to care for yourself, I am here to listen and support you. It can be difficult to recognise and express your needs, especially when they conflict with the expectations of others. Over time, this may lead to anxiety, self-doubt, or feeling disconnected from yourself and those around you. You might long to feel more understood, or more in touch with who you really are, but not know where to begin.

My aim is to bring together effective approaches incorporating a variety of therapeutic models such as relational therapy, humanistic, psychodynamic, attachment theory, person centred and neuroscience. This will also depend on your individual needs. My experience also covers body psychotherapy and energy work along with solution based therapy and mindfulness. I offer both short and long term therapy and the length of therapy will depend upon the presenting issues and your wishes. Is there a particular problem you would like to talk through and explore? This could be to do with a relationship, work related or a repeating pattern.

I use an integrative approach in my practice (Gestalt, CBT & Person-Centered) meaning that we will look at not only what is going on for you in the here and now, but also what experiences and beliefs you may have developed in the past which are no longer enabling you to move forwards.
Hi I'm Amy and I'm a qualified integrative counsellor offering sessions online, face-to-face and in nature. I'm here to walk alongside you as we explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences which are causing you pain. I work holistically to incorporate your connection to yourself and your environment - looking at the cycles and patterns present in your life and bringing awareness to the choices and changes which could be made.

For someone looking for 'tools', I might use CBT to identify unhelpful ways of thinking and how to change them
Hello, well done for getting here. Finding a counsellor that's a good 'fit' isn't easy, especially when life is getting too much to cope with. Are you finding life overwhelming? Not sure which way to turn? Maybe I can help? I specialise in working with people who are struggling with anxiety, are feeling really low, not knowing which way to turn. Talking to someone who is really listening to you, helping you make sense of what is going on without judgement or telling you what to do could really help. Lets work a way to make a change together.

I draw upon psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural ( CBT), dialect-behavioural (DBT), systemic, schema-focused, cognitive-analytic and other therapeutic approaches.
I have 20+ years experience working with adults who have experienced traumatic histories, difficulties in relationships, overwhelming feelings, a complex world within their minds, troubling voices, intrusive thoughts, losses, low mood, frustrations, anxieties, who might have learned to cope in ways that can attract all kinds psychiatric diagnoses. I work with people who might have tried particular models of talking therapy before but need a tailored approach to understanding their troubles. I often see people who are not clear about what is troubling them or what they want, but require a safe space in which clarity might emerge.

I offer cognitive behavioural therapy ( CBT) and eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy (EMDR).
During the COVID-19 outbreak, I have found clients to really appreciate the flexibility that meeting online has brought them and many have commented that they have found it just as effective (if not better) than meeting face to face.

We can use Person Centred (talking therapy), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy ( CBT), Gestalt, Sandplay or other creative ideas in our work together.
There are times in our lives when we notice that we don’t feel ok and that we need to move from that place, but don’t know how. In these times, counselling can offer a safe, private and confidential space to notice and share anything which doesn’t feel ok. It offers room to take care of, and notice ourselves. Only you can know best. I feel that through the relationship of counsellor and client we can work to notice or re-notice yourself. We might also find new ways of learning to cope with the pressures of life, or re-find old ways of supporting yourself that you have forgotten. (We can work creatively if you enjoy that).

Ever considered having a biker as your counsellor? My aim is to recreate the supportive environment one would get around a campfire with the added calmness of a cruise in the countryside. Lets take a journey together. I am down to earth and human. Sometimes throttle therapy doesn't work and we need a little extra support.  I offer Online and Walk and Talk Sessions on the outskirts of Exeter. Where you have the opportunity to express and explore your emotions in the Scenic and calming surroundings of nature. Please note the Fee for Walk and Talk is set at £50 per session.

The truly exciting thing about BWRT is that it works directly in that ' cognitive gap' before conscious awareness.
Hi, My name is Danny Nuttall. Since 2007 I have been offering confidential therapy for adults. My preferred modalities are Brainspotting. A development from EMDR. Brainspotting uses specific eye positions to help individuals process and release stored trauma and emotions. And BWRT to switch automatic unhealthy responses to healthy preferred responses. in the Reptillian Brain.

I undertook my psychotherapy training in Psychodynamic Practice at Oxford University and have formal training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy ( CBT) and Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy (PAT) having trained with MAPS America under Marcela Ot'alora and Bruce Poulter.
My work has given me the privilege of working with many hundreds of people, listening to them speak about their life experiences and mental health. I know how difficult and challenging life can be. How overwhelming work, relationships and family life often are and how desperate the need can be to find purpose and meaning in our lives.

I specialise in PTSD in children and young people using Trauma-Focussed CBT to help treat symptoms of trauma.
I work with adults and young people and offer both short and long term therapy. Sometimes life’s challenges may feel overwhelming, emotionally exhausting or relentless and we may seek professional support to help us find our way through. Anxiety, depression, feeling lost, lonely, confused or traumatised are some of the many issues people bring. Whilst our personal stories and the reasons for our distress are ultimately as unique as we are, I have found that clients of all ages share a common goal; the desire to gain new perspectives and deeper understandings of themselves and to explore the possibilities and means of change.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
