You may look like you’re coping on the outside, while feeling anxious, disconnected, or emotionally exhausted inside. Many of the people I work with carry old patterns from childhood, difficult relationships, grief, or family experiences that still shape how they see themselves and relate to others. You may be used to overthinking, holding everything together, or feeling unsure where you truly belong.

I use creative mediums such as art, drama, music, sand play, story telling and many other channels to understand a child/ young person’s world and help them deal with social/emotional challenges.
I providing a empathetic, permissive environment which is child focused. This is an approach that helps children in a variety of ways. Children receive emotional support and can learn to understand more about their own feelings and thoughts. Sometimes they may re-enact or play out difficult circumstances that they simply don't have the words to express.

When emotions feel overwhelming, whether for you or your child, it can be hard to know where to turn. You may be noticing anxiety, emotional outbursts, school refusal, or a sense that something isn’t quite right. Many parents tell me they feel worried and unsure how best to support their child. Or perhaps, as an adult, you feel stuck carrying the weight of past experiences, finding that relationships, work, or daily life feel overwhelming. I offer trauma-informed therapy and a calm, compassionate space to begin making sense of what is happening and move toward healing.

Art and creativity can form a supportive part of the work, always optional and used in service of insight.
Many of the men I work with look fine from the outside. They are capable and used to managing on their own. Underneath there can be anxiety, heaviness, or a disconnection they can't quite explain. Most have spent years living up to a narrow idea of what a man is supposed to be. Therapy is a place to stop and understand the patterns that no longer hold.

My name is Nicola and I’m an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist registered with BACP. I work with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, grief, panic attacks and specialise in trauma, rape and sexual abuse. While therapeutic techniques provide structure, I believe the most effective counselling comes from the relationship we build together, one founded on trust, understanding, and meaningful engagement. Through deep listening and thoughtful reflection, I help you explore your emotions, untangle complex thoughts, and reconnect with your inner strength.

I offer a soulful approach to therapy grounded in the latest psychological theory. Often, it may seem that much of modern psychological therapy merely ruffles and reorganises the surface of the things that trouble us, seeing people who are experiencing psychological suffering as complex machines to which we can apply a set psychological theories. In contrast, after 20years of working as a psychological therapist, I believe it's more appropriate to approach clients as 'souls' in need of hearing, healing, connection, meaning, and renewal.

You may be the one others rely on - thoughtful, capable, socially conscious - yet privately exhausted. Perhaps you learned to survive through competence, caretaking, or control. You have navigated spaces not built for you, carrying responsibility early. Beneath achievement, adaptation or resilience, there may be burnout, resentment or quiet loneliness. You want to untangle inherited baggage, understand relational patterns shaped by power and history, and build a life organised around desire and choice, rather than endurance and survival.

I specialise in narcissistic abuse in relationships and the workplace. I work with anxiety and trauma alongside the dissociation from emotions this can cause. I have worked with survivors of domestic violence and bereaved families within a hospice setting. I also work for a society with worldwide clients recovering from narcissistic abuse. Exploring variations from your personal life within therapy is hugely important as I believe that no client is the same; regardless of whether they are experiencing loss, anxiety or an abusive narcissistic relationship.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
