I have helped people with depression,
anxiety
, sexual assault, drug and alcohol dependency.
Life is not always easy and sometimes, when you are going through difficult times you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel or see your way through. Having someone to talk to who is not part of your family or friendship group, somewhere you can say exactly what you are really thinking or what you are afraid of, where you can take the mask off that you wear every day. It can be your place of calm in what may feel like a very chaotic world.... just to be....and be yourself.

anxiety
, depression, trauma, sexuality, anger and all kinds of relationship challenges in a warm and supportive manner.
*Online and phone sessions available* I offer a caring and non-judgmental relationship in which you can explore the issues, experiences, thoughts and feelings that have brought you to seek help. We will explore the situations and challenges you are facing in your life. Speaking about what is difficult is the beginning of feeling better. Core Process Psychotherapy combines the wisdom and compassion of Buddhism with western approaches to psychology. This compassionate and relational approach emphasises our wholeness, and our inherent resilience and balance - however hidden these qualities may sometimes seem.

When we hit a rough patch our mental health can deteriorate to the point of burnout. Our problems worsen long before we seek help. It’s important to look after ourselves to get back on the right path. I am an experienced, part-time lead clinical psychologist in an early intervention psychosis team. I provide a rich understanding of how your problems developed, the psychological factors that kept them going, and effective strategies to treat them. I work with
anxiety
disorders (social, OCD,
panic
, GAD), PTSD, and depression. These problems can be fuelled across a lifetime by what you have learned to think about yourself and others.

I am experienced in supporting people affected by
anxiety
, low mood, unhelpful habits/ addictions, low self-esteem, victims/survivors of trauma, sexual abuse, relationship difficulties and neuro-diversity challenges and unpaid carers of a loved one with dementia.
Are you feeling sad, lost or fearful? Are you dealing with relationship issues, a traumatic event or might not know why you feel unhappy, and need help to move forward in a safe space? You may want to explore and work on yourself, in a non-judgmental environment, or want to talk about difficult issues with someone you feel comfortable talking to. Some years ago, I went on my own journey through therapy, which helped me to understand the process of counselling, and value of being in a safe space with someone who showed me genuineness, acceptance, and empathy, which is what I aim to provide for my clients.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
