Hi I'm Aaron, my approach to therapy is that I do not have all the answers ( I am not all knowing) and that the client knows what's best for their life. I will smile, laugh and joke. I will also challenge, encourage and celebrate you. I see it as a journey and we will work together to create our own dynamic. How we relate to each other is the (I believe) core to the success of therapy.

My clients appreciate my holistic approach to mental health. Their goal is usually to find their authentic selves, to become more self aware and to thrive and find joy and purpose, not just survive and settle for a life that is not working for them. We all want to be seen, heard and understood and that is often at the very heart of Healing.

I work with a wide range of presenting issues including: anxiety, depression, overwhelm, family tension, anger, burnout, and questions around identity, energy, and self-esteem.
At the heart of my work is a deep respect for the uniqueness of each person. My approach is relational and person-centred, meaning I don’t see myself as the expert on your life. Instead, we explore together — at a pace that feels right for you — in a space that’s attuned, grounded, and most importantly non-judgemental.

I believe that, due to the unrelenting pressures of the world we live in and the way our brains have evolved, everyone can find life difficult sometimes. It is easy for our minds to appear to work against us; getting stuck in loops of painful thoughts and feelings. This can result in depression, anxiety and difficulties with relationships. People who have experienced significant distress, trauma or hurt in life can also, not surprisingly, experience significant difficulties where memories come to haunt us and send us back to previous pain. I hope to help people life the life they want to live, with some sense of agency over pain.

Going to therapy (sometimes known as counselling or psychotherapy) can often feel like a daunting task and finding the courage to take those initial steps can be difficult. You may already feel overwhelmed whilst searching for a therapist and have many questions, such as what do the different approaches and qualifications mean, who is experienced enough and who could help me the best? Regardless of which approach is used, one thing we do know is that the most important factor in creating positive client outcomes is the quality of the relationship between the therapist and client.

Back in the nineties when I went to my first counselling session when it seemed the only option left that I could face. In the UK back then ‘therapy’ was almost taboo and I was scared to tell a soul. Thank goodness I quickly felt safe enough to confide in my counsellor and to share with her my deepest fears for my sanity, my marriage, my high pressure job and indeed, my future (if there was to be one). I can’t remember too much about those sessions now but I always felt better just for having shared. Nowadays through counselling I help people to find and to love their inner selves, to handle whatever life throws at them and to grow.

Anger Management Counsellors
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
