As a qualified & experienced counsellor I feel comfortable in dealing with a variety of issues that affect our mental health including anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement, relational difficulties, domestic & family abuse (verbal, physical and sexual), issues surrounding sexuality, gender and identity. Those who seek my help are often looking to change how they feel about a specific event, develop their self understanding and awareness so that they are more able to deal with difficult situations and emotions or to change patterns of behaviour that no longer serve them. I offer both short and long term work.

I understand that life can be overwhelming, but I’m here to guide you through those obstacles. My goal is to help you understand yourself more deeply through your journey with me, and get you back on track. My sessions are designed to unravel painful issues and provide you with effective tools to be able to heal. Taking action creates a sense of liberation and a feeling of letting go of the despair associated with insignificance and meaningless. It creates a feeling of growth and promotes the embracing of life and to exist with wonder and curiosity. I've been honoured to be endorsed by Her Grace the Duchess of Rutland and Source.

Hello and thanks for stopping by. If you are looking for a genuine down to earth psychotherapist, to work with you on something that you can’t seem to get a handle of by yourself, then drop me a line. Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, I am happy to sit with you, and maybe we can work it out together. Are feeling distant in your relationship with yourself or others in your life? This could be a breakdown of a relationship, due to past experiences of trauma, abuse or a current life situation. We can work together to understand what is going on and potentially find a way to be okay with, rekindle or build connections.

I am one of the few Psychodynamic counsellor's practicing in the area which means among other things I work with past relationships and how they impact an individuals current life. We all need emotional support from time to time, many of us find parts of our lives difficult and we can't always turn to family and friends. It can be helpful to talk to someone in confidence who is impartial and non-judgemental. Some of the issues people come to counselling for include feelings of loss, low mood or worry, others may be having difficulty handling bereavement, separation and relationships at home and work.

Having worked with adults across a range of issues, my practice is now focussed towards couples and individuals struggling with relationship issues. My aim is to support couples to create positive, alive, joyful relationships which will not only enhance their own lives, but also provide a secure and loving foundation for any children. Usually this means couples come together, but sometimes I work with individuals who recognise the need to address the way they relate to others and want to bring about change in this area of their lives.

Hi I’m Catherine, Clinical Psychologist. I work with individuals struggling with their mood, anxiety, self-esteem, coping or in dealing with the past. I aim to offer a friendly, non-judgemental space, where we can get stuck in to understanding how you tick, to work through the problems you bring. You might have a clear idea of what you want, but I otherwise draw on various therapy approaches to personalise strategies so you can do what works for you, to make the changes you need. I work with anxiety disorders (inc. anxiety, panic, phobia, stress), PTSD, depression, ADHD and ASD.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
