My name is Luke and I work with adults who are dealing with anxiety, low mood, emotional overwhelm or dilemmas that have become hard to manage. People often come to therapy when they feel stuck, unsure what’s going on, or when strong emotions are getting in the way of day‑to‑day life. I use CBT to help you understand your experiences and make change that feels realistic and sustainable. We start by noticing what’s been weighing on you, then look at what matters to you and how therapy can support things feeling more manageable.

I work with anxiety (generalised, social, panic attacks, perfectionism, health, separation, phobia), depression, self esteem, body image, OCD and trauma.
CBT is a well researched and effective treatment for anxiety and depression. I focus on using proven techniques and adapt them to the person's age and individual differences (e.g. neurodiversity). While CBT forms the foundation of my work, I balance practical strategies with space for reflection, self understanding and personal growth.

I'm especially interested in working with anxiety, OCD, and anger.
I specialise in Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy, a collaborative and empowering type of CBT centred around changing our self-defeating beliefs, but my approach is integrative, which means I will use other approaches, when appropriate, that I think will be helpful to my clients. This means my sessions are tailored, personal and flexible.

The most common problems I see include: Panic Attacks, Agoraphobia, Health Anxiety, Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Phobias.
I have over 10 years of experience working with adults to overcome mental health problems. CBT is an ideal treatment for those who are looking to change, whether that be to make some changes in the way in which you think about things, or some changes in the way in which you do things day to day. CBT can also help clients come to an understanding of 'why', E.G. what is it about you, your experiences & vulnerabilities which perhaps help explain why you struggle. This is often validating & helpful rather than self blaming. Together we will equip you with the skills and understanding you need in order to move forward with confidence.

I am a psychoanalyst in training and an accredited counsellor. I offer a safe space in which you can speak and be listened to without judgement or expectation. I encourage you to speak about whatever comes to mind and to follow your thoughts wherever they lead. You may have a diagnosis or have your own words for how you are suffering - that's often the place to start. What we may find is that issues of identity and relationships follow - how you see yourself in relation to those around you now or in the past and possibly how you would like relationships to change in the future.

Therefore, I know there is always hope. If you want to make changes in your life, I can help you – and show you. I am a fully qualified, insured and DBS checked EMDR Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
