Female Counselling in Melksham
Welcome, I’m Eilidh. I am a Humanistic and Integrative Counsellor, offering counselling to both adults and children. Life is rarely travelled without experiencing a period of difficulty. These can be as short as a day, or sometimes for what seems like forever. The impact and cause can be obvious and in-the-present, or sometimes less so, perhaps from your distant past. No matter the cause, you may be left depressed, anxious, or consumed by negative thoughts. The onset of feeling stuck and alone, not knowing what to do, often accompanies these emotions.

Winston Churchill said, “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” Do you want to be more optimistic about the future? Are you looking for help to see your opportunities? Maybe you need a co-author to rewrite your story? If so, I would like to be the one to explore with you, to guide you beyond your problems, and find solutions. I pride myself on the relationships I build with my clients, perhaps due to my enthusiasm, positivity, and the belief that often laughter is the best medicine. I work outdoors, using Walk and Talk Therapy or from my counselling room.

Our true nature is free, flowing, wild and energetic. Childhood traumas create defences, because our survival instinct was so strong it protected us at all costs. The cost is our experience now, disconnection from our-self, our body, others, life. Resulting in difficult relationships, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression and self harming behaviors. The decision to come to therapy is a brave one, it is a statement to yourself and the Universe that you no longer want to just survive, but to live with more ease, connection and aliveness. The therapeutic relationship encourages this life force energy, giving space for wholeness to grow.

Finding a therapist can feel like a minefield. Ultimately you probably want to find someone to talk to that you feel comfortable with, and who can of course help. I understand how confusing and nerve-wracking it can be to consider therapy and take the first step. I provide clients with a supportive space in which to unpack their challenges. I will help you to get a better handle on what is happening for you. I have experience of working with anxiety, depression, significant loss and bereavement, childhood and midlife trauma, as well as difficulty understanding feelings.

Do you feel anxious, burnt out, on edge, or disconnected from yourself?
Life can be overwhelming — and when we carry unresolved stress, trauma, or pain, our bodies remember even when our minds try to move on. You might keep busy, care for others, or push through, but still feel lost, not good enough, or unsure who you are anymore. You just want to feel better.
I support people who are tired of just coping and ready to truly understand and heal from the inside out — especially those navigating anxiety, trauma, stress, grief, low self-worth, or the long-term impact of difficult relationships or experiences.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
