My role is to walk alongside you as things begin to make sense—where anxiety, grief, or feeling stuck are not problems to eliminate, but signals worth listening to.
Most people aren’t broken. They’re just used to not being heard. I work as a counsellor and psychotherapist from a person-centred perspective, grounded in a simple but often overlooked belief: people already hold the capacity to understand themselves, face what’s difficult, and change the direction of their lives. In a culture obsessed with quick fixes and neat labels, I offer something different—a space where you don’t have to perform, explain yourself perfectly, or be anything other than real. A space built on honesty, empathy, and acceptance. I don’t position myself as the expert on your life. You are.

” Many of my clients have struggled with the effects of cancer diagnosis, others grief or loss and some have become full time carers.
As someone who has experienced loss, I understand the impact of counselling to help you acknowledge and give space to those difficult thoughts and feelings that no one else understands. If you are struggling with loss through ill health, bereavement or disability (either as a carer or as a disabled person) then I can help you to find a way forward.

I work with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, anger, loss, and life transitions.
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, especially if you’re used to coping on your own. You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, struggling in relationships, or simply finding life more difficult than usual. Whatever has brought you here, you’re welcome exactly as you are. At the heart of my work is the belief that everyone deserves a space where they can talk openly and honestly without fear of judgement. Together we can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace. Many people come to counselling worried about being judged or misunderstood; with me, you will be heard and accepted.

I specialise in grief work, whether it's the death of a loved one, loss of a relationship, self or financial security.
Are you feeling alone, unheard or misunderstood? Maybe you feel anxious, angry, or hurt. Do you feel as though no one is there for you or listens to how you are feeling? Maybe you have tried to speak to friends and family but they either just don't get it or tell you what you should or shouldn't be doing and the conversation shifts to their problems. When was the last time someone really sat with you and gave you their undivided attention to talk about how YOU are feeling? What would it feel like to truly be heard and understood? To be able to express how you feel without the worry of being judged or fear of upsetting someone?

I am able to provide a safe and contained therapeutic space, allowing you to begin to bring change based on your goals. The core principle of my approach is for us to work together in allowing you to develop a greater awareness of how you think, feel and behave, whilst developing healthy strategies to allow change.

I am experienced on working with people who suffered a traumatic (shock) incident, loss and relationship difficulties.
Hello! My name is Carmen and I am working as a private practitioner. I worked before in schools, drug and alcohol rehab and occupational health (EAP and assessments). I'll work with you in a way that will enable you to discover yourself, maybe the difficulty which probably causes you distress, increase your motivation and hopefully change your life in better. We can talk about what it is happening now but also we can address aspects from your past which are just on 'pause' at the minute but they 'creep' out whenever they want. Usually my sessions are based on your needs, purpose and action.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
