If you’re struggling or feeling stuck in your life, I can help. Maybe you feel like something is missing, you feel sad or angry, or you’re in the middle of difficult life changes. Outwardly you might look fine, but inside you might be depressed , anxious, or have problems with relationships. I provide a safe space for you to feel less overwhelmed, feel less stressed, and happier. You will be helped to work through your thoughts, feelings, and behaviour in a non-judgemental way. We’ll work towards understanding where these come from so we can change how you deal with them. I work mainly online with some walk & talk availability.

Hi – my name is Jo.  I’m a Counselling Psychotherapist and I work with both adults and children. Sometimes life will present us with challenges and difficulties that we struggle to make sense of, or that make us feel stuck and unable to move forward positively. Not knowing what to do or how to be when we have these experiences can create a diverse set of uncomfortable feelings. Its different for everyone...whilst one person may feel overwhelmed or isolated, another may struggle with anger, anxiety or depression . Perhaps this sounds like you?

Good mental health is not simply the absence of psychological problems. It is about thinking, acting and feeling in ways that enable you to live joyfully, overcome challenges and flourish. Choices when selecting a professional can be overwhelming. Looking at the lists of therapists and reading about different therapies that you cannot really understand might be frustrating. Whether you are feeling stressed or depressed , you are facing a crisis point in your life or trying to find meaning, or if you simply cannot go on as you have been, I can help you to look at things differently and find your own new way of being.

As a counsellor, I have helped clients with issues such as anxiety, depression , bereavement and relationships.
There may be times in life when we struggle to continue as we are and understanding the meaning we give to life-events can be difficult. In counselling, I hope to support you to explore your thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour so that you develop more self-awareness and become closer to your true self, resulting in a shift from disconnect and anxiety to connection and an increased sense of self-worth.

If you feel overwhelmed, burnt out, stressed, emotionally depleted, anxious, depressed or unhappy, I am here to listen and support you. If you can identify with any or a number of these issues you may also be lacking in confidence or have a poor sense of self worth. You may feel afraid, lost, confused or could be experiencing debilitating fatigue. These emotions and physical sensations can lead you to feel that life has no meaning or purpose. Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness are very common too.

I work with you as the client, with the issues and diversity that you bring - ranging from gender identity, depression and anxiety to OCD, sexual violence and bereavement.
We will all have times in our lives where things start to get us down, sometimes it may be from a breakdown in a relationship, something in our past such as a neglected or abusive childhood, we can reach a time in our lives where things just do not fit anymore and sometimes we just don’t know why. Having that emotional support that therapy can bring in a non-judgemental, safe environment can help bring back the balance and peace to your life.

I aim to put your interests first, respect your autonomy and confidentiality, and value diversity; all within clear ethical boundaries. I welcome different ways of being so if you like to speak a lot, enjoy moments of silence, want to doodle, draw mind maps, make notes etc.; you can do so in our sessions. Clients experience relief that they can be themselves whether that’s feeling sad, happy, angry, despondent, confused or other emotions. I have been described as being inviting, warm, understanding and down to earth.

Whatever brings you through the door, seeking to change or feel better, you no longer need to face your problems alone. It takes courage to look at ourselves and to sit with the myriad emotions and situations that have constructed the person that we are today: the hardest part is the first step, acknowledging the problem and seeking help. For more information about how I can help you and the approaches we may use together, please visit my website at www.nicolaflinn.co.uk

Hello, I'm a fully trained counselling psychotherapist and I offer private individual therapy on an ongoing or short-term basis. I am trained in the psychodynamic method and CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) and use an integration of these ideas to best help you. It can be difficult to find a space to reflect and I offer a secure, non-judgemental, confidential environment, where together we can find that space for you. I am very patient and understand that taking that first step towards counselling, and beginning to make changes can be very difficult and I'll do my very best to support you.

Considering Counselling can be quite nerve racking. However it is important to remember that if you choose to engage with it and accept that changes can and do happen for the better, it has the potential to be life changing. If you are suffering with low mood, low self esteem, anxiety or indeed something much more specific that needs attention then you should book an initial consultation. My experience covers issues named above but so many more. As a trained Counsellor, and Psychotherapist, I believe our relationship is key to a successful change in self defeating behaviour so you can move on to a positive place.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Market Harborough. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
