Women's Issues Counselling in Margate

I specialise in working with clients experiencing big life changes, anxiety, relationship challenges and the impact of past traumas, but there’s no reason too big or small to seek out therapy. I work as a Therapist and Coach under my business name Aceso Healing Therapies, and believe in taking a holistic approach to mental health. I encourage my clients to assess their overall wellbeing in order to understand where the repair needs to begin. The development of our relationship will be the starting point to the therapy work.

For most of us, facing sexual problems feels really isolating, distressing & embarrassing. If you’re reading this you’ve probably already overcome the instinct to avoid talking about it at all and are now taking the difficult step of reaching out for help. Unfortunately, scrolling through endless profiles offering a ‘safe space’ & lots of mysterious jargon is pretty overwhelming in itself! If you're struggling with anything to do with sex- feel free to shoot me a message and we can arrange a no-obligation, 30 min chat so you can get a sense of my vibe and decide from there if I'm the right therapist for you.

I offer a free 20-30 minute consultation prior to a first session to explore how you feel about working together. I work with people who wish to delve deeper into their experiences and want to uncover patterns which are no longer helping them. I work relationally, meaning I use our relationship as way to explore each clients unique way of being in relationships. Sometimes we can arrive at rigidly painful beliefs about ourselves and the world we live in. Existential therapy can be a way to disrupt these beliefs and change the way we see the world and ourselves in it.

We all face times in our lives when we feel lost, anxious, and overwhelmed. We may find it hard to get out of bed in the morning, or feel like no-one will understand what we are going through. Sometimes intense memories of a loss or a traumatic event in our past may be hindering us from moving forward, creating painful patterns in our day to day lives. Perhaps we just feel that something is 'off' and sense that we are not living our lives in the most fulfilling and meaningful way possible. I am a qualified Integrative counsellor trained to work with adults and young people, and want to help you find a way forward.

With 25 years experience as a Counsellor & 10 years as an Art Psychotherapist within various NHS, Education and Community-based services, I've since specialised in EMDR therapy and am an Accredited Practitioner with the EMDR Association UK. Although EMDR is widely recognised as a trauma-focused therapy, it can also be effective in treating a broad range of issues, often in a relatively short-term time-frame. EMDR helps process intense emotions, self-limiting beliefs & behavioural patterns in the present which seem stuck on repeat, as they often track back to distressing or overwhelming relational-issues or life events in the past.

Women's Issues Counsellors
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
