I use Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and EMDR.
Hello! I work as a Clinical Psychologist part-time in the NHS, and one evening online in private practice. Fundamentally, I enjoy meeting people and working alongside people to help process and understand their experiences. Sometimes our life experiences and difficulties we encounter can feel overwhelming, and we may not know where to start. I can help you start to make sense of your experiences through talking and applying a range of therapeutic approaches along the way. I accept self-funding, as well as BUPA insurance payments. I also offer block bookings with 10% discount.

My psychodynamic approach places significant emphasis on the importance of early childhood stages and events.
Hi. My name is Darron, I am based in Beswick, Manchester. It's not uncommon for individuals to experience stress and anxiety when life becomes complex and overwhelming. During such times, therapy serves as a valuable resource to help navigate and alleviate these challenging emotions. I actively and creatively collaborate with each client or supervisee to design and implement a personalized intervention to address their emotional or professional development needs. I create a space that is safe and accepting, where you can freely and creatively express yourself.

I specialise in psychodynamic counselling which draws on an understanding of how past experiences shape present thoughts, emotions and behaviors.
Often, those in pain may come to counselling in complex mental binds. These challenging emotions may present as forms of anxiety, depression, relationship issues, low self-esteem and so on. I offer a space where we can explore the pain and challenges you're facing. Doing so with compassionate curiosity, free of judgment and shame. You may wish to begin counselling as a way to get to an underlying reason or source of your struggle, and in doing so, safely process in order to heal. I offer in-person and online sessions.

I operate as an Integrative Counsellor using Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy.
Accepting that you need the help of someone else can be hard. Making the decision to attend counselling can be even harder. Partners, peers and family may not understand, you may feel like you've failed somehow, you may feel like you are not enough. This is far from the truth however. Attending counselling is often the first step on a journey that allows us to confront our difficulties, face our fears, become more self-aware and ultimately take a path that can lead to a better life.

I specialise in relationship issues and use a combination of psychodynamic therapy with systemic and family therapy.
People come for therapy for many different issues. A common theme is that people want to get a greater sense of themselves and understanding of what may have caused their issues and how they might grow past these challenges. Therapy can help you feel better about yourself and improve your mental health.

I am a full clinical member, as a psychodynamic psychotherapist, of the North of England Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (NEAPP).
There is a wide variety of reasons why you might be looking for a psychotherapist, but perhaps everyone wants to change ingrained states of mind, and to live in a rewarding and productive way. It's difficult, but the aim of analytic work is to get to grips with persistent problems. It holds out the hope of finding new decisiveness and flexibility in living.

Rather than sticking to just one way of doing things, I draw from a variety of different methods and tools, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness, or psychodynamic therapy, among others.
You have courage and determination in the face of life's challenges. I can only imagine you have been grappling with issues like anxiety, depression, or relationship struggles, yet you refuse to let these obstacles define you. Instead, you're hungry for change, yearning for a sense of peace and fulfillment that seems just out of reach. Your needs are raw and real, but you want a change of direction, because you feel stuck. I appreciate you may be scared, but I will be here throughout.

Member of the Institute of Psychotherapy and Disability (IPD) for impact of disability and psychodynamic processes.
Over 20 years as a Highly Specialised Clinical Psychologist in the NHS developed my skills in improving wellbeing particularly for Black/ Caribbean people (of African ancestry, including multiple heritage). Day to day pressures can be overwhelming without appropriate support and understanding for the many cultures we co-exist within. My interest in the psychological impact of disability makes me ideal for adjusting to such issues. Specialist training in offering a therapeutic chair to people with learning disabilities means level of ability is not a barrier to enhancing wellbeing for individuals and families.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
