I am a clinical psychologist specialising in perinatal and parent infant mental health. My focus is supporting parents during pregnancy and the early years of their child's life. Becoming a parent is often the biggest transition of our lives and many parents find it is not what they expected it to be. In therapy we can work together to make sense of this experience, which can help you to overcome difficulties and move forward. I also offer supervision to health professionals working in perinatal and parent infant services (including psychologists, midwives and health visitors).

Specialist interests include infertility, pregnancy and infant loss, traumatic birth experiences, TFMR and postnatal support.
It isn't often, in our everyday lives, that we feel truly heard, understood and accepted without sensing judgement or criticism from others. I deeply acknowledge and understand the loneliness that comes from struggling in silence with life's difficulties. Therapy offers you a calm space to begin to tell your story; permission to pause and reflect on what you have been through, validate your response to trauma and loss and gently navigate the path forward. I will support you on your therapeutic journey, gently empowering you to realise your inner resources and ways of coping and navigating your world so that you feel more in control.

I offer woman-centred, personalised and sensitive support for women who have or are experiencing infertility, miscarriage, a difficult pregnancy, late term loss, a traumatic birth or traumatic postnatal period. The deep emotional wound from these experiences can lead to a downward spiral that impairs your thinking, ability to feel truly happy and live at peace in the moment. But this is not permanent and I can work with you to recover from anxiety, low mood and depression, trauma symptoms, feeling stuck, overwhelm, emotional outbursts or imbalances and relationship struggles with your yourself, partner, child or family.

I have particularly extensive experience working with bereavement, pregnancy loss ( miscarriage and termination), work-related stress, relationship issues, and with anxiety and depression.
Everyone comes to therapy with a loss, whether that is a bereavement, a relationship break-up, changes in health, the loss of a friendship, a change of job, etc. There are many different endings that we go through in life. Therapy is a safe and supportive place to talk, it provides the opportunity to process what has happened and to explore who you are now and how you can move forward. Therapy is a place where you can say out loud all of those things you can't say elsewhere. You can talk about things you may not feel able to talk about with friends or family.

I also work with individuals and couples for miscarriage, pregnancy loss, involuntary childlessness or the adoption process.
I am passionate in helping clients to take the right steps for them. I support you, to make a difference or find an acceptance in everyday life. I work with my clients in exploring the difficulties fears re experiencing and we work to gain an understanding of thoughts and feelings. Their emotional disturbance can be discussed and put in to perspective to help make changes to the unhealthy thought or behavioural patterns. Sometimes, addressing where the negative beliefs have originated from, helps to find the positive changes and overcomes the difficulties. Giving clients a new awareness, growth and belief.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviours. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
