I am an integrative counsellor specialising in anxiety, depression, family issues, relationships, learning difficulties, grief and loss, career progression, imposter syndrome, self-sabotage, and many other feelings of unfulfilled desires.
Your time with me is dedicated to you. It’s an opportunity for you to share whatever is on your heart and mind, whether it’s emotional pain, confusion, or unresolved issues. Together, we will explore how the mind and body show signs of distress such as indecision, confusion, unresolved issues, feeling overwhelmed by toxic relationships or unhealthy dynamics. By exploring these feelings and patterns, we can develop a better understanding of ourselves and how to respond more effectively in the future.

I’ve worked with people with dementia, learning disabilities or autism for over 30 years.
The pandemic and lockdown saw a dramatic increase in social isolation and loneliness, but it also saw an increase in people reaching out for help from counselling and psychotherapy. As a joint-qualified counsellor and social worker, I have seen this change first-hand. It’s okay to recognise that you are feeling overwhelmed and need help; it’s okay to realise that you are stuck in a pattern of behaviour that you know is doing you no good; it’s okay to recognise that there’s something in your life that you want to change. As a Person-Centred therapist, my job is to work with you to create a space from which change is possible.

I became interested in Youth and Community work when I was a teenager and started to work for Manchester Youth and Community Education Service
I quickly realised that most of the young people and adults I engaged with, needed the support of a trusted adult who they could confide in and talk to about a whole range of issues.
This lead me onto my counselling path and in 1986 I undertook a Certificate in Counselling
I have been working with young people and adults in a wide range of settings and in particular people who are Neurodiverse/SEND and have faced Adverse Childhood Experiences.

So many of us feel the need to wear a mask day to day, unable to express our true feelings or show who we really are. I understand how difficult it can be to make the first step in asking for support, with this in mind I can provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment in which you can be fully open and honest.

Therapy brings clarity, helping you make effective decisions and positive changes in thoughts, attitudes, and behaviours. It's not about advice giving but creating space to talk, explore, and reach your own realisations. The goal is to feel more equipped to make choices and move forward with confidence and wellbeing. Hypnotherapy & mindfulness can be introduced as a type of complementary therapy—hypnosis promotes focus and openness to positive change, while mindfulness helps keep you grounded in the present.

I came to TA after a long time in therapy, which convinced me of the power of talking therapy to enable change. I wanted to learn about T.A as it fits with my values of equality. A core principal is that " I'm OK and You're OK" and I approach my practice in that way. Therapy can be hard work, but there is always the potential for growth, and happiness.

My aim with therapy is to help you work out where you want to get to and help you find your ways to get there. Sometimes it can also be useful to think about what has happened to you. Working this way means we can find a path that suits you, in a collaborative way. I always keep in mind that you are the expert on you. I mainly use solution focused therapy which is a therapeutic approach that works with almost anybody and almost any issue. It is a way of identifying what a better life might be like and thinking through how to get there. I can also use techniques from CBT, psychodynamic and person centred counselling.

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?
When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.
When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?
It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.
What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?
Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.
Are there medications for learning disabilities?
Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
