I have particular experience working with LGBTQ+ clients, as well as people who feel different in other ways, including neurodiversity, gender identity and disability.
I practise person-centred therapy. This means sessions are led by what matters to you, rather than a fixed agenda or set of expectations. We move at your pace and focus on what feels most important in the moment. You can expect sessions that are thoughtful, honest and warm. Sometimes there is room for a laugh too.

I work in an LGBTQ+ affirmative and anti-oppressive way.
Hello, I'm Charlie (he/him), a Registered Counsellor and UKCP Trainee Psychotherapist (In Advanced Clinical Training). I offer a confidential, respectful, sensitive space where you can explore what you’re going through and where I work with you to make the changes you want in your life. Taking the step to speak with someone, whether you have done this before or this is your first time, can feel both daunting and empowering. You're going through something at the moment, have thought a lot about it and are looking for someone who feels like the right fit to work with you in moving forward.

People often come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected, and unsure how to make sense of their experiences. I work with anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, identity questions, loss, and trauma. Alongside specific concerns, we may explore deeper patterns in how you relate to yourself and others. I tend to work best with people who are open to reflection and interested in understanding themselves more deeply. Together, we can begin to make sense of how your experiences have shaped you, creating space for greater self awareness, choice, and more meaningful ways of relating to yourself and others.

Do your feelings overwhelm you? Is it hard to stay in control? Are you unkind to yourself? I understand how hard it is to ask for help. Untangling a lifetime of feelings and thoughts can be daunting, but with the right support you can identify those limiting patterns and change the beliefs, feelings, and responses holding you back from the life you want and the person you want to be. Choice comes from understanding yourself, then making the right changes. I understand how hard it can be to do that on your own. I will be with you on that journey, supporting and empowering you to move from self-awareness to real, lasting change

If you’ve found yourself here, something’s probably not quite right. Maybe you're overwhelmed, stuck in your head, or just not feeling like yourself. Reaching out for help isn't easy, and therapy can feel like a big step. I don’t promise to fix everything, but I do offer a focused, evidence-based approach in a supportive, down-to-earth space. You don’t need to have everything figured out before we begin. Together, we’ll make sense of what’s going on and work toward the changes that matter most to you.

My training includes working with those practising consensual non-monogamy and I welcome LGBTQ+ clients.
What if you accepted every part of yourself, even those you hide from the world? What might be possible? Modern life can be challenging, with its demands, expectations and technology, but self-discovery can lead to learning, growth and a greater sense of ease. I can be your calm companion as you explore the areas of life that need attention, helping you connect with others and feel more belonging. My approach is person-centred and acknowledges how childhood experiences shape our adulthood, so that therapy will partly involve coming to terms with the past and how it affects the present.

Hi, I’m Craig. I am an integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, with experience of using Yoga for anxiety and depression, based in Manchester. I care about helping people navigate those sticky and uncomfortable moments in life. For most of my adult life, I’ve felt a pull towards the helping professions. This pull led me to the realms of counselling, psychotherapy and yoga. I’ve found the tools and skills from these realms transformative in my own development and growth, and in others. I take an integrative approach, bringing concepts, skills and techniques from the psychotherapeutic, yogic and spiritual spheres.

Sometimes life can feel out-of-control, confusing and painful. Perhaps you struggle with a sense of helplessness, or that your usual ways of coping don't work anymore. Perhaps you feel anxious or depressed. Maybe you have feelings that don't make sense or come out of nowhere. Or you might have always felt like an 'outsider', or that you find social interactions challenging or confusing. Maybe you just want to make a change to your life, but don't know where to start.

Perhaps you feel something isn't quite right. Maybe you can't put your finger on it, or maybe you can? A relationship that's become difficult, a pattern you keep falling into, a sense of being stuck somewhere you don't want to be. You know something needs to change, but understanding what and doing it are different things. That's where I come in. I work with people who are ready to understand themselves better. To spot the patterns, make sense of where they are, and find a way forward. Not back to how things were, but somewhere new. Somewhere with more clarity, more choice, greater wellbeing.

Maybe you’re holding it together on the outside, but inside it feels like too much. It might be anxiety, depression, past trauma, ADHD, or patterns in relationships or with self-worth that feel hard to shift. You don’t need to explain it all perfectly, just somewhere to start. I’m a BACP-registered therapist offering a person-centred, trauma-informed space to go at your pace. You’ll be met with empathy, honesty, and respect. People often come to me feeling stuck, emotionally exhausted, or unsure where to begin. Over time, you can start to feel more settled, more like yourself again, and like things are a little easier to face.

Having worked in the NHS for over fifteen years; I specialise in Psychiatric care and Neurodiversity. As a Neurodivergent therapist, I have found from practice and my research, which evidences Neurodivergent Affirming Therapy; strong therapeutic alliance with my patients; there's reassurance, safety and a sense of belonging when working with someone who actually gets you! I have worked hard to ensure therapy caters to and adapts to our brains! Techniques such as eye contact, open questions, long silences, often made me and my patients want to run away, perpetuating a belief of hopelessness and helplessness.

Expecting to have some enjoyment and a sense of fulfilment in life is not a pipe dream – it’s your purpose and your right. If you’re like 99% of others, then you can’t quit your job and travel the world because a quote on social media told you that’s how to be happy. Life is tough, and things often get thrown our way that knock us sideways. You might even be waking up more than you’d care to asking: “what is the point in all this?”. Or maybe you feel stuck in a cycle, struggling to make changes in your life? You're not alone, and you don't have to feel this way.

Deciding to come to therapy, and choosing a therapist, is an incredibly big decision. Over the years, I have found that a lot of my clients have not always had the best experience with practitioners, and this can cause significant anxiety when deciding to access therapy again. Whether you are coming to therapy for the first time, or you have had therapy before, I respect the care and time that is needed to find the right person for you. It is important for you to feel safe and valued for you to explore what is happening in your life. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to learn a little more about me and my approach.

LGBTQ+ Counsellors
Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?
Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialised training, either during their degree programme or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalisation in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?
Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?
While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialised training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
