I have supported clients with a diverse range of needs including - anxiety, depression, substance abuse, relationship issues, gambling , sex addiction, bereavement and loss, stress, work conflict and lack of confidence.
Being diagnosed with an illness, or suffering from a stressful period in your life, can sometimes be a frightening and a bewildering experience. It can impact greatly on your emotional wellbeing as well as your physical health. And, as a family member, carer or friend, it can be just as hard watching someone you care about going through such a difficult time. Very often family members seek help to support themselves whist their loved ones navigate through difficult times.

I have over 15 years experience working as a counsellor and have experience of working with clients with eating disorders, couples/relationships,OCD, anxiety, grief, abuse, loss, post-traumatic stress, trauma, depression, stress, addictions, gambling , aspergers, sexuality, self-esteem, sexual identity, parenting issues, self-harm, anger issues, co-dependency.
We all have times when we find it hard to cope. Counselling can help you understand why you think, feel and act like you do. It can help you develop positive strategies to get what you want out of life. How we think, feel and behave is part of being human. Problems can arise when we get 'stuck' in negative thought patterns; when our feelings are persistently overwhelming; when our behaviour is self-destructive and doesn't result in us getting what we need; when we worry about the future, dwell on the past and find it hard to live in the present. I believe the most important relationship we have is the relationship with ourself.

Counselling/ Psychotherapy: Effective counselling reduces confusion, allowing you to make effective decisions leading to positive changes in your attitude, behaviours & overall well-being. The ultimate aim of counselling is to enable you to make your own choices, reach your own decisions & go forward with a greater sense of clarity & self-management. Hypnotherapy & mindfulness can be introduced as a type of complementary therapy in which hypnosis is used to create a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility during which positive suggestions are made to rid you of emotional blockage. Mindfulness keeps us focused

I know sometimes it's very difficult to put in words what you're really experiencing and each time you try to speak to family or friends they just don't seems to understand where you're coming from and sometimes they try to advise you on what to do, but you're left frustrated. You might even find it difficult to understand what it is that you are really experiencing and the emotions that are associated with it. There might be situations which triggers a specific thought or feeling and it has changed your whole day and you quite can't identify it. You might be feeling anxious and feel like everything is out of your hands.

Because the foundations of security begin in relationship and specifically, the first relationship we experience with our primary caregivers. I believe in the importance of relationship within the therapeutic setting.  You will have the opportunity to examine how you relate to yourself internally and with others interpersonally. We will look at present-day relationships as well as childhood influences, and how these impact on the formation of self.  Safety, care and compassion are my guiding principals when working therapeutically.

Although I regularly work with clients of all ages and genders, the majority of my clients tend to be young men, who have unresolved feelings or experiences which are impacting on their daily lives. I work as an integrative counsellor, from a person-centred perspective. This means that you can bring whatever you wish to the session, while we work at your pace and depth. I employ theory and techniques from CBT, psychodynamic and other therapeutic philosophies which I feel may be useful. Where we start is not the important thing as ultimately, you will naturally discover the things that matter the most to you.

Gambling Counsellors
A compulsive gambler or a pathological gambler is someone who is unable to resist his or her impulses to gamble. The urge to gamble becomes so great that tension can only be relieved by more gambling.

There is a very fine line between problem gambling or Manchester gambling addiction and gambling too much. The critical sign of problem gambling is often hidden from awareness, with denial. Many gamblers in Manchester typically do not know they have a problem. Admitting you have a problem, or may have a problem, is the first step to recovery.

Treatment options include individual and group psychotherapy, and self-help support groups such as Gamblers Anonymous (a 12-step programme for gamblers). Abstinence principles that apply to other types of addiction are also relevant in the treatment of compulsive gambling behaviour in Manchester.

Recently, medications such as antidepressants, opioid antagonists, and mood stabilizers have been shown to be beneficial in combination with gambling treatment by a Manchester gambling counsellor or gambling counsellors in Manchester or those experienced with gambling behaviours in Manchester.
