TLDR I mostly work with people dealing with anxiety, depression, and/or OCD stuff/intrusive thoughts, to better understand what's happening and find ways to improve things. I continue to learn to better support the people I work with, particularly around gender, sexuality and relationship diversity, and neurodiversity.

If you’ve found yourself here, something’s probably not quite right. Maybe you're overwhelmed, stuck in your head, or just not feeling like yourself. Reaching out for help isn't easy, and therapy can feel like a big step. I don’t promise to fix everything, but I do offer a focused, evidence-based approach in a supportive, down-to-earth space. You don’t need to have everything figured out before we begin. Together, we’ll make sense of what’s going on and work toward the changes that matter most to you.

Deciding to come to therapy, and choosing a therapist, is an incredibly big decision. Over the years, I have found that a lot of my clients have not always had the best experience with practitioners, and this can cause significant anxiety when deciding to access therapy again. Whether you are coming to therapy for the first time, or you have had therapy before, I respect the care and time that is needed to find the right person for you. It is important for you to feel safe and valued for you to explore what is happening in your life. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to learn a little more about me and my approach.

I am a consultant clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience in NHS adult mental health services. My remit is the full range of common and more complex mental health problems in adults over 18 years. This includes all the various forms of mood and interpersonal difficulties. So whether it is a sense for you of feeling hampered in living and / relating, or of reeling from experiences endured, or of an inchoate sense of feeling adrift that is hard to put into words or simply a desire to understand yourself more deeply, it may be worth committing to a space where you can think freely about yourself and the life you want.

I support neurodivergent young adults who are ready to reclaim their identity following late-diagnosis, trauma, or chronic anxiety. If you're neurodivergent, you likely know what it’s like to feel different, constantly second-guess yourself, and be overwhelmed by emotions and feelings in your body. You may have spent most of your life surviving — trying your best to navigate school, friendships, and work. You haven't really had a chance to just... breathe. As an adult, you might be trying to understand who you are, make sense of things that happened in the past, and understand emotions that feel too much.

At the core of my therapeutic approach is to provide an empathic, safe and open space, enabling clients to develop awareness and understanding of complex psychological difficulties. I use this basic foundation to help clients (and the systems around them) work through these challenges by applying appropriate, evidenced-based intervention models in a gentle and collaborative way. I believe that while life inevitably entails a degree of trauma, tragedy or other adversity, therapy can help people find resilience and hope, thus supporting them to grow from these experiences and offering a path to a happier and more settled existence.

It can be overwhelming finding the right therapist and therapeutic approach for you. I aim to make the process of therapy clear and comprehensible, starting with building a shared understanding (formulation) of your difficulties and setting goals. Over the last 14 years I have worked across the NHS and independent practice, supporting adults and young people with mood difficulties (including anxiety and depression), adjustment to physical health conditions, and eating disorders. My clinical experience and training, together with your self-knowledge, is our starting point for therapeutic work.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Counsellors
Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?
Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviours when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviours that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioural therapy?
Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioural change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?
While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?
The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
