I hold a Masters in counselling and have undergone other training in eating disorders and compassion focused therapy.
There are many difficulties in life that can feel overwhelming at times. Life circumstances or internal struggles can leave us feeling as if we are not getting what we should out of life and we want to be able to move forward. In all circumstances I believe passionately in the power of therapy to help enact positive change. The tools and skills you could learn with me can enable you to feel that you can live the rest of your life free from what has been holding you back. We would do this together working at your pace and always being in partnership.

Over the years of practice I gathered a depth of experience working with people struggling with depression and anxiety, addictions, panic attacks, obsessive tendencies, psychosis, relationship issues, eating disorders, trauma, including supporting those who experienced/are experiencing sexual assaults, hate crimes, identity and cultural transition issues.
Drawing from 20 years of experience, I want to offer you a therapy that can take you on a path that includes all parts of you, the body, the mind and the soul. A therapy that suits you both in the approach I take and in the length of the process. I am an integrative psychotherapist. I am interested in a holistic development and provide both short and long term therapy.

Isn’t it strange how we talk the least about the things we think about the most?! Talking about your feelings, your emotions, your behaviours and your thoughts can feel overwhelming and conflicted, not knowing where to begin, this can seem scary and uncomfortable. My role is to support you to acknowledge, explore, accept, and understand them in order to achieve growth & positive change. My philosophy is that you hold your own answers internally but you are unable to access them, working collaboratively we will unlock them using your strengths and gaining empowerment.

You’re the one holding it all together for everyone else. But when it’s quiet, food becomes your secret comfort and your source of shame. You’re ready for something to change. On the outside, you look like you’re managing it all. But inside, food takes up far too much space: the overthinking, the overwhelming urges and the all too familiar regret. You’ve read the books, followed the plans, even white knuckled your way through 'just one more try', yet the cycle keeps pulling you back. It’s exhausting. Part of you longs for peace: to feel at home in your body, to eat without overthinking, and to stop this tug of war once and for all.

I now use my professional and lived experience to help others find their way out of the prison of binge eating.
Finding a therapist that knows how to help can be challenging. I always suggest clients have a look at my YouTube channel first (The Binge Eating Therapist) and/or check out my podcast Life After Diets. This way you will be able to get a sense of me and how I work with emotional, compulsive and binge eating.

At times, life can quietly become overwhelming. You might feel stuck in patterns that no longer work for you, weighed down by difficult emotions, or unsure why things feel so hard. Sometimes there’s a clear reason, and sometimes there isn’t. Counselling offers a space to pause and gently make sense of what’s been happening so that life can begin to feel clearer and more manageable again.

I specialise in working therapeutically with eating disorders, baby loss, miscarriage and rainbow babies.
Do others view you as a calm river with a constant, steady flow? Does this stop you from telling them about the disarming undercurrent that pulls you in all directions? Perhaps you feel like you need to maintain the outward appearance of being someone who ‘has it all’ when inwardly you are scared that you aren’t enough. Appearing perfect can be exhausting, it can also be isolating and erode our true sense of self. I am here so that you can rest your mask down for a while. By tapping into and meeting the needs of your inner self you will find that you feel resourced enough to fortify your relationships with others.

Eating Disorders Counsellors
What happens in therapy for eating disorders?
In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviours, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behaviour affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?
Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counselling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioural disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?
The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behaviour, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?
Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognise they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?
Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behaviour has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
