Life can be overwhelming at times and it’s hard to know what to do for the best. The Covid era has been a strange time that’s tested relationships, problematised goals, brought great suffering,
loss
and anxiety, and made even straightforward decisions and plans feel impossible. Even aside from recent events, it’s so rare in our day-to-day lives to have chance to pause, reflect, and explore what we want and what the blocks might be to getting it. I'd like to work with you if you've ever felt stuck, lost, confused, lonely, sad, uncertain or guilty about anything, past or present - we can explore and untangle those feelings together.

Anxiety, depression,
bereavement
, relationships, work goals, issues and ways forward - these are just some of the stressors I have helped clients to tackle.
I am a qualified psychotherapist, life coach, trainer and supervisor, with over 20 years experience in private practice. I work with adults who may be encountering life's stressors to a greater-than-usual degree or may be struggling to find their way forward in a diverse range of circumstances. These may be from personal or professional sources but usually involve our own, perhaps not very helpful, habitual ways of dealing with such difficulties - we all can revert to old habits in times of trouble. I am available to do both short- and long-term work according to need.

I am a counsellor and registered general nurse specialising in occupational health, and my priorities have been about the physical and psychological care of my patients and clients. I use the biopsychosocial model to support clients' biological, psychological and social experiences and issues. I listen to why the client feels they need therapy, and we discuss the most appropriate way forward which may include, for example, CBT or solution-focussed therapy. I am welcoming and trustworthy and my approach to clients is irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, race or religious beliefs.

My therapeutic background is in
bereavement
.
As an experienced counsellor in my 40s, my approach is to get to know you as an individual and create a safe space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and actions, free from any judgements. The counselling I provide is a solution focused talking therapy where my full attention, empathy, and respect for you will always be present. As a trained Integrative counsellor in Person Centred Therapy (PCT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA) the counselling will be a mix of some, or all of these forms of therapy, depending on the issues you bring. We would discuss this in our initial consultation.

I have proven counselling experience supporting clients coping with a
bereavement
as well as those affected by a life-limiting illness such as cancer.
Life is full of ups and downs and sometimes we can struggle making sense of everything. These feelings may become overwhelming and difficult to endure. Asking for help is OK. Counselling could be the help you need. Unlike talking to friends or family, speaking with an impartial skilled and caring professional can help alleviate feelings and develop your ability to mange and feel more in control. I am a BACP qualified counsellor working in a person-centred way. This means I offer a warm, supportive and nurturing environment where I will listen without judgement and prejudice to whatever feels most significant to you.

There are many reasons why people look for a counsellor e.g. anxiety, depression, relationship issues, significant life events,
loss
etc. Sometimes people find that patterns keep repeating themselves, or that they feel ‘stuck’ and unsure how to move forward. Sometimes people don’t know why, but they feel unhappy or unsettled. Counselling and psychotherapy can help with these issues, and more. Working together I can support you explore such issues, to understand more about yourself and others, and to help you move your life in the direction you want.

From time to time we all feel sad, anxious, helpless, irritable, lack motivation and have low self esteem. Life is always a challenge for most of us; most emotions are painful, both physically and psychologically. Without help our mood can worsen, life becomes joyless , causing us to loose hope and withdraw from people. It might be the way you think about and treat yourself that has brought you here. Maybe you would like to explore areas of your life that are causing you levels of distress. Are you struggling with relationships? Trying to move on from abuse? Or dealing with
loss
? Dealing with conflict at work might be stressful.

My clinical experience covers a wide range of issues from
bereavement
, stress, anxiety, depression, emotional neglect, trauma and abuse.
Feeling vulnerable and overwhelmed by life’s events can happen to any of us and usually occurs at the most inappropriate time. Do you feel unable to make sense of how you feel? Do you have difficulties in relationships? Have you noticed the same patterns of behaviour happening repetitively in your life? Do you have low self-confidence/self-esteem? Do you suffer with anxiety and/or depression? If you have answered yes to any of the above, then I may be able to help you.

I incorporate different therapeutic approaches depending on individual client's needs and have experience working with
bereavement
,
loss
, relationship difficulties, trauma, anxiety, mental/emotional abuse and life-limiting diagnosis.
It isn't often, in our everyday lives, that we feel truly heard, understood and accepted without sensing judgement or criticism from others. I deeply acknowledge and understand the loneliness that comes from struggling in silence with life's difficulties. Therapy offers you a calm space to begin to tell your story; permission to pause and reflect on what you have been through, validate your response to trauma and
loss
and gently navigate the path forward. I will support you on your therapeutic journey, gently empowering you to realise your inner resources and ways of coping and navigating your world so that you feel more in control.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
