Hi. My name is Darron, I am based in Beswick, Manchester. It's not uncommon for individuals to experience stress and anxiety when life becomes complex and overwhelming. During such times, therapy serves as a valuable resource to help navigate and alleviate these challenging emotions. I actively and creatively collaborate with each client or supervisee to design and implement a personalized intervention to address their emotional or professional development needs. I create a space that is safe and accepting, where you can freely and creatively express yourself.

In a world that often echoes with the message that we're not quite enough, it's easy to feel lost amid the noise of our inner critics and societal pressures. Many of us have internalised the negative messages we receive from our environment, leaving us feeling anxious, depressed, and with low self-esteem. Some soothe themselves through addiction, while others express their pain in unhealthy relationships.

Throughout life we all suffer from personal, emotional and psychological issues. Usually we overcome these but sometimes we can get stuck, tangled up and become negatively affected. If you are finding yourself experiencing anxiety or depression, or struggling with any other issues, then know that help is always available. Whatever it is, I am here to listen attentively, with empathy, without any judgement, and in complete confidence. There are multiple approaches to counselling, but rather than push a particular one (that may not be suitable for you) I prefer we work together to decide which is the best way forward for you.

Life brings all sorts of challenges and some can be much harder to overcome than others. Most adults can remember a time when they were dealing with a situation so tough that everyday living became more challenging than usual. For children and young people, who have not had time to develop their own coping strategies, such situations are even more difficult to cope with. Many children who are having a difficult time do not know what it is that they are feeling and cannot put it into words. Counselling for children and young people might be slightly different to the traditional idea of therapy you may have in mind.

I offer face-to-face, telephone and online support with a range of issues such as relationship struggles, anxiety, depression and low mood, low self-esteem, big life changes, loss and bereavement, stress, work-life balance, trauma - to name a few. I also offer therapy sessions outside where we can talk whilst walking in nearby natural spaces. Hi, my name is Ben and I am a Consult Clinical Psychologist at Project Trauma. I set up Project Trauma to provide the kind of personalised, compassionate psychological support that people need following events in their life which they have struggled to cope with. Psychological distress can affect anyone and everyone will have a different reaction to traumatic events in their life. We all have different tolerance and ways of coping, but at some stage in our life we will all need help from somewhere.

Sometimes life experiences can become overwhelming and feel too much to cope with. This can lead to us to feeling worthless, vulnerable and isolated. Sometimes we need somebody who will listen to us without judgement to help us work through things to lead to a better understanding of ourselves and our experiences and sometimes just hold our hand whilst we sit in that darkness.

I’m an Integrative Counsellor working with adults, online and in-person in Central Manchester. My specialisms are anxiety, self-esteem and relationships, in all their forms. It may be that you find yourself people pleasing through fear of disagreement or rejection, or worrying that you aren’t a good enough partner, friend, etc. Perhaps you are stuck in behaviour patterns which lead to conflict with others, or that anxiety makes it difficult to enjoy social situations or progress at work. These are all natural things to struggle with and it can be difficult to know how you can feel, or do things, differently. Therapy can help.

Life tends to give us challenges and difficulties, and sometimes we struggle to know what to do. We become stuck with a problem and become anxious and depressed about it. Counselling can help you to find a way forward: to rediscover your own resources, to develop your personal strength and resilience, to develop trust and change unhappy relationship patterns, better your communication, develop trust, adapt to life changes, or improve your relationship.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
