I can help people who are experiencing all levels of distress and unhappiness. You may have feelings of dissatisfaction and a sense that you are not getting all that you want in your life. At the other end of the spectrum you may be finding that every day is a real struggle with strong, even overwhelming, feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, anger etc. I believe that all of us want to strive to feel happier and more fulfilled than we currently are. We want to feel a connection with other people and to have a sense that we are leading meaningful, enjoyable lives - even when at times we feel at a loss as to how to achieve this.

Hello! I specialise in working with women who have depression, anxiety, stress, anger issues, addictions, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, or who wish to explore and deal with trauma or abuse from their past and the impact it is having on their lives today. I have expertise in and I am certified in the clinical treatment of clients who present with complex psychological trauma. I believe the key to healing is in supporting you to transform how your mind, body and soul remembers what has happened to you. This involves bringing to consciousness your patterns and supporting you to heal, change and grow.

This may include CBT for depression, anxiety, panic, stress, low self esteem, anger , OCD, trauma, PTSD, work-place conflict, pain and addictions.
Choosing a professional to help you with your struggles can be a stressful process. Many people have heard of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy but aren’t sure what it involves, and don’t know whether they need CBT, counselling or something else. That’s not a problem - I will provide an initial phone or video consultation to answer questions, listen to your concerns and discuss with you what you are looking for. My first session involves an assessment of your current difficulties from the perspective of a trained mental health professional, and working with you to establish whether CBT or counselling would be most beneficial for you.

Other issues I frequently work with include low self-esteem, depression, work related issues, relationship issues, anger and bereavement.
Choosing a therapist can be a tricky task, there are just so many! As a guide, a big factor for therapeutic success is 'connection' - also known as 'the therapeutic alliance'. There is little you can see from a profile but perhaps take a moment to pause and check inwardly whether there is potential for a good therapeutic relationship. This practice is known as 'focusing'. I frequently use this method to help my clients access edge of awareness experiences that often were part of their life for many years. If you'd like to explore parts of yourself that you find burdening or at least unhelpful my approach may be of help.

My main therapeutic approach is Emotion Focused Therapy which supports you to regulate painful emotions such as shame, anxiety, anger and loneliness.
My name is Austen and I have specialist experience and training in the areas of Trauma, Emotional Regulation and Sexuality related problems. Trauma can take many forms; you might be struggling with the impact of childhood sexual abuse and neglect. Alternatively, isolation and shame as a teen may have lead you to lose yourself in sex or porn addiction. I offer a therapeutic relationship that is strictly confidential and supportive where you can talk openly about your experiences and feelings without being judged. I have experience of working for counselling services within the NHS, Terrence Higgins Trust and Leeds Beckett University.

The protective power of arts in health and mental health has been with us for millennia and today is evidence based. Daily life's emotional demands often go unnoticed and coping with anger , fear and sadness is socially accepted to happen in silence. Nourishing and protecting our mental health can get easily neglected. Although family and friends can play a wonderful supportive role in times of need they may not be enough in times of crisis. Making the choice to look after our mental health is our first step to personal growth. Making art is creative and fun. Being part of a supportive and safe group is therapeutic.

Want to be a happier, calmer parent? Are you struggling with parenting stress or parental burnout? Has parenting stress drained all the joy out of parenthood for you and left you struggling with difficult emotions like anxiety, sadness, anger and guilt? Maybe chronic stress is making you act in ways you regret such as being too harsh with your children or becoming distant from them? When times get tough in parenthood, we often blame ourselves for not being good enough parents but the truth is we need better support. As a clinical psychologist and mum of 3, I know how hard parenthood can be and I know how best to support parents.

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
