I know how overwhelming it can feel trying to find a therapist who is right for you. It is sometimes hard to get a feel for what kind of person a therapist really is beyond their qualifications and training... which is kind of important if you are going to be vulnerable with them! Let me show you a little of who I am so you can see if we are a good match. My name is Rose. Before I began facilitating healing for others, I spent years dedicated to my own healing. I experienced severe & complex trauma as a child and teenager that resulted in various forms of dis-ease in my adult life.I tried talking therapies and although I could under

Counselling/ Psychotherapy: Effective counselling reduces confusion, allowing you to make effective decisions leading to positive changes in your attitude, behaviours & overall well-being. The ultimate aim of counselling is to enable you to make your own choices, reach your own decisions & go forward with a greater sense of clarity & self-management. Hypnotherapy & mindfulness can be introduced as a type of complementary therapy in which hypnosis is used to create a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility during which positive suggestions are made to rid you of emotional blockage. I am a fully qualified BACP Accredited counsellor who has 15years experience in counselling children and young people who are experiencing stress, anxiety, sadness, low mood, anger and other difficult emotions. I provide a safe space in which the young person can explore their feelings surrounding an issue and become better able to understand and express those feelings. People access therapy for many different reasons, but generally we are most likely to reach out for help when our usual coping strategies are no longer effective. At these times it is not always helpful to turn to family or friends, as their well-meaning support often fails to make us feel truly understood. As a therapist, I will not be directive in pushing forwards solutions, because I do not claim to know you better than you know yourself. My aim is to provide a safe and authentic relationship, where an exploration of the dynamics between us becomes a significant factor in the effectiveness of the therapy.

Choosing a professional to help you with your struggles can be a stressful process. Many people have heard of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy but aren’t sure what it involves, and don’t know whether they need CBT, counselling or something else. That’s not a problem - I will provide an initial phone or video consultation to answer questions, listen to your concerns and discuss with you what you are looking for. My first session involves an assessment of your current difficulties from the perspective of a trained mental health professional, and working with you to establish whether CBT or counselling would be most beneficial for you.

Having several years' experience working with both children, young people and adults, I can offer support to a wide age range from 13+. Reaching out for support can be incredibly overwhelming and scary. It’s very important to me to try and make this as simple and accessible as possible. I qualified as a counsellor in 2019 and have worked within mental health for over 5 years, in the charity and voluntary sector. Removing barriers to counselling support is very close to my heart and I pride myself on being a down to earth practitioner.

Throughout life we all suffer from personal, emotional and psychological issues. Usually we overcome these but sometimes we can get stuck, tangled up and become negatively affected. If you are finding yourself experiencing anxiety or depression, or struggling with any other issues, then know that help is always available. Whatever it is, I am here to listen attentively, with empathy, without any judgement, and in complete confidence. There are multiple approaches to counselling, but rather than push a particular one (that may not be suitable for you) I prefer we work together to decide which is the best way forward for you.

Teen Counsellors

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
