Counsellors for Teens in Manchester

I became interested in Youth and Community work when I was a teenager and started to work for Manchester Youth and Community Education Service
I quickly realised that most of the young people and adults I engaged with, needed the support of a trusted adult who they could confide in and talk to about a whole range of issues.
Therapy is a place where you can feel listened to without judgement in a safe and supportive space . We will go at your pace and at your level.
I will help you to explore the issues that are impacting on your life and find the best ways for you to help yourself be healthier and happier .
We can use different approaches depending on your needs

I experienced severe & complex trauma as a child and teenager that resulted in various forms of dis-ease in my adult life
stand what had happened in my mind I could not feel it in my body. I decided it was time to try some different therapy options such as somatics & shamanic healing. I am not a crisis intervention service. I offer therapy to individuals who are ready for deep transformation

My focus is to support people to develop insight into the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that underpin their difficulties. You may have been feeling really low, or perhaps anxious? You might have found difficult completing the things that you used to enjoy? Or past events might be stopping you from living the life you want to live? CBT can help with this. I am passionate about CBT as it is a goal focused, collaborative, well researched and can transform people's lives.

I am a Counsellor based in Manchester offering In person and online sessions. Life can be challenging, and in places it can feel intolerable and overwhelming it can be difficult to know where to start unravelling this, how to make changes, what changes, if any, we need to make, and to try to make sense of why we feel the way that we do. This can be a very painful experience but however dark it may be today, doesn't mean tomorrow won't be lighter, counselling can offer an opportunity to be heard and to be understood. I work with clients from all backgrounds but have particular experience working with Addiction and with LGBT+ issues.

Asking for help is difficult and the idea of finding the right therapist/psycholgist can feel daunting. You are not alone.
I tell people that finding the right person is like looking for the right trainers. You may have to try a few different pairs before you find the one that fits. Interview me to see if I'd be a good fit for your family.
We applaud your courage in taking this first step. It's our mission to guide you towards a more fulfilling quality of life. Bringing my American culture and qualifications to the UK with nearly twenty-two years experience. I specalize in working with CYP, Trauma and Abuse Recovery, & Couples.

Teen Counsellors
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
