I help people with lots of different issues, including self esteem,
loss
and
bereavement
, identity, health issues, anxiety and depression.
Hello I’m Corrina. I’m an Integrative Counsellor based in Manchester. I’m a big believer in the power of being truly listened to and understood, without judgement. I think it’s something we all need in our lives, particularly when we are finding things difficult. Being heard in this way can be the starting point for seeing things more clearly and either changing, or living more easily, with the things that trouble us. This is something I offer to all my clients and I love seeing the difference it can make.

There are many reasons why people look for a counsellor e.g. anxiety, depression, relationship issues, significant life events,
loss
etc. Sometimes people find that patterns keep repeating themselves, or that they feel ‘stuck’ and unsure how to move forward. Sometimes people don’t know why, but they feel unhappy or unsettled. Counselling and psychotherapy can help with these issues, and more. Working together I can support you explore such issues, to understand more about yourself and others, and to help you move your life in the direction you want.

My therapeutic background is in
bereavement
having worked as a counsellor for two years at Macmillan Wellbeing Centre in Trafford.
As an experienced counsellor in my 40s, my approach is to get to know you as an individual and create a safe space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and actions, free from any judgements. By building our therapeutic relationship we will work collaboratively together to help you find your way. The counselling I provide is Person-Centred Therapy, where where my full attention, empathy and respect for you will always be present. However, as a trained Integrative counsellor in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Transactional Analysis too, the counselling can be solution-focused if you wish.

I believe everyone has the right to feel safe, heard and respected in life and in the therapy room. Knowing what is best for our mental health is often overwhelming, I am here to help you find a way through what can seem an insurmountable task. Many reasons make people want to see a counsellor. Sometimes this might be something concrete; the
loss
of a loved one or having endured a time of great personal stress. Your concerns might be more vague; a sense of disconnection or unhappiness in life with no easily recognisable cause.

I help people adapt to changes - or
loss
- at work, at home, with partners, in home or culture, I help to make changes, too: it might be something immediate like a phobia or more long-term, like anxiety, pervasive self-criticism or depression.
I work with people from all walks and with many issues but all feel a need to change something in their lives. I can create a safe space to explore and understand the problems you bring, both individually or together with partners. I have helped many clients deal with the issues arising from depression, self doubt, anxiety and trauma, or changing notions of self worth, especially in the face of work stress.

loss
and
grief
.
I have a passion for working with people whilst creating a safe environment to help clients to process and understand their feelings. I do not view myself as the expert in the therapeutic relationship as I believe that with the right support and therapeutic relationship, the client can understand their difficulties and find their own solutions to the difficulties they are facing.

Many people find it helpful when faced with difficult stages in their normal life cycle such as career changes,
loss
and
bereavement
or crisis points in relationships.
With my brother diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia nearly 30 years ago, I have personal experience of the family sacrifices and struggles related to the pain and stigma of mental illness. Having since, committing my life to the improvement of people’s emotional fitness and mental resilience, with support from organisations such as SANE and MIND, my own journey has allowed me to discover the true benefits of therapy first-hand. Personal therapy is proving invaluable for people to manage certain difficult or crisis situations in their lives and so transform their problems into major opportunities for personal growth.

Perhaps you feel stuck in the same patterns of behaviour. Maybe you feel disconnected from yourself and others at times. You’re not thriving. I understand because I’ve been there too. It’s not more willpower you need, it’s more insight.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
