Looking to begin in-person psychotherapy or counselling in Manchester city centre? My practice is by St Ann's Square and I provide short- and long-term therapy for
adults
. Established in 2011, people turn to my therapy service for a variety of reasons: they may have received a mental health diagnosis or have symptoms such as anxiety, depression, or trauma. There may be a difficult shift triggered by life's big events (employment status, for example) or a thought, feeling or behaviour in day-to-day life may have become troubling. For some it's because of a specific or generalised experience that is difficult to put into words.

Although I work with clients of all genders and ages, I am extremely experienced working with male
adults
, who need a safe space to explore their thoughts and feelings.
Although I regularly work with clients of all ages and genders, the majority of my clients tend to be young men, who have unresolved feelings or experiences which are impacting on their daily lives. I work as an integrative counsellor, from a person-centred perspective. This means that you can bring whatever you wish to the session, while we work at your pace and depth. I employ theory and techniques from CBT, psychodynamic and other therapeutic philosophies which I feel may be useful. Where we start is not the important thing as ultimately, you will naturally discover the things that matter the most to you.

Our mental health and wellbeing are paramount to us. It saddens me to sometimes to see what little care we take of it. We see our GP’s as soon as we have a physical ailment. However, tend to ignore how we feel emotionally, forgetting our emotional wellbeing is part of our whole-making. It has been my life long passion to encourage people to put themselves first and follow their dreams. I am a great believer in the power of our mind and what we can achieve if we dare to. We all experience some form of distress in our lives. We feel sad, angry, lonely, depressed, anxious, stressed, grief or even feeling that we cant always explain.

I am committed to providing you with support, free of judgement and full of empathy for every stage of your journey. As a qualified counsellor I am enthusiastic about humanistic approaches. I embrace the idea that we have wisdom and capabilities to overcome hardships and live a more fulfilling life, given the right support and environment.

I like to describe the process of therapy to clients as the unpacking and re-packing of a messy suitcase. There may be things in there that have been actively avoided and possibly some things that have been forgotten about altogether. Through gentle and curious exploration, the suitcase is opened; things are taken out and safely examined. Coming face to face with that which has caused pain can be frightening but it needn't be done alone. The re-packing of the suitcase allows for the healing and acceptance of that which has been pushed away from the mind but is still stored in the body. Things will start to feel lighter and clearer.

Hi, my name is Ben and I'm the lead Clinical Psychologist for Project Trauma. I set up Project Trauma to provide the kind of personalised, compassionate psychological support that people need following events in their life which they have struggled to cope with. Psychological distress can affect anyone and everyone will have a different reaction to traumatic events in their life. We all have different tolerance and ways of coping, but at some stage in our life we will all need help from somewhere. Recently I have been working extensively with individuals suffering very understandable health anxiety related to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Hi, I'm Craig, a CBT therapist. I'm here to help you understand and change the thoughts and behaviours that are causing you distress. I know that it can be difficult to talk about what's going on in your life, but I'm here to listen and offer support. I'll work with you to develop a personalised treatment plan that meets your individual needs. CBT is a short-term, goal-oriented therapy that has been proven effective for a wide range of problems, including anxiety, depression, stress, eating disorders, and more. It's based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are all interconnected.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
