Individual therapy offers a place of honesty for the battles in our heads, from medical diagnoses (or not) and past trauma it may include, questions of sexuality, gender expression, and everyday negative thinking. As life changes, so can how we feel about ourselves, others, and what we want. At times we may feel alone, whatever our relationship status. Ruptures can affect trust, communication, emotional safety and leave us hurt &/or uncertain. Therapy provides space to reflect, reconnect, and find meaning in uncertainty. It can reduce anxiety, deepen our understanding, and support harmony between inner needs and the demands upon us.

Are you facing challenges in your life that feel overwhelming? Would you like to change how things are, or gain a better understanding of what is going on for you? Perhaps what you are experiencing is due to a relationship, something to do with your job or studies, a bereavement or other loss, or something less definable - perhaps just a sense that something is not right for you. Maybe it is connected to neuro-diversity, low self esteem, depression or anxiety. Whatever your difficulty is, and no matter how big or small it seems to be, by looking for therapy, you are taking a positive step in your life.

You may already feel clear about what you need—if so, you’ll find more information below about how I work, my experience, and my values. If you’re unsure whether counselling is right for you, that’s completely understandable. Reaching out when you’re not feeling okay—or when you don’t fully understand what’s going on—can feel difficult. If something here resonates with you, it may be a sign that you’re ready to take that first step toward support. You may feel confused about what is happening, or not quite like yourself. You may be noticing changes you don’t understand, or you may know what you need, but find it difficult to move on

I offer a safe and confidential space where you will have the chance to share your problems, your difficult feelings, your pain and your life story. Talking about our life honestly and openly, with an empathic and non-judgemental therapist can be a deeply healing process. Having a space where we can be fully ourselves, where we’re invited to slow down, breathe and investigate our inner world and our emotions is necessary, today, more than ever. We live busy lives and for many, it is difficult to stop and notice, most of the time, what is going on inside us. As we reconnect to our feelings and our essence there is an immediate sense

Everyone around you says you have so much to offer, but you’ve lost that spark of belief and don’t know how to pull yourself out of this rut. You might have tried other therapists before, but find that nothing out there seems quite right. Well, with a solution-focused approach akin to life coaching, that's where I come in!

Many of my clients are expert copers. People who have been "getting on with it" and "pushing through" all of their lives. They may have lives that look great from the outside, and feel lonely, disconnected and overwhelmed on the inside. Eventually that way of living becomes unsustainable. My clients want some inner peace and calm, connection with others, and freedom and confidence in being themselves. They leave therapy with a greater understanding of their lives, compassion for their struggles, and joy in who they have revealed themselves to be. I love the work - whether its with individuals, couples, triads, or groups.

My clients are people who are quietly struggling. They show up well in the world — at work, in relationships, in the roles they play — but something underneath isn't right. Stress and anxiety are often present, though they rarely arrive with those labels. More often they show up as overthinking, difficulty switching off, a sense of never quite feeling settled, self-destructive patterns, or a nagging feeling that life should feel different to this. I also work with couples who have reached a point where the same arguments keep happening and something needs to change.

If you’re feeling stuck in anxiety, self-criticism, emotional overwhelm or repeating patterns, I offer a warm, trauma-informed therapy to help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and create lasting change. Some people know exactly what they want help with; others need support to understand their difficulty. Either way, we work together at your pace to explore how past experiences shape present responses.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counselling for elderly different from counselling for other age groups?
In general, counselling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialise in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counselling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counsellors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counsellors specialising in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counsellors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
