I have worked as a counsellor and psycho sexual therapist for over 30 years and I still find it as fascinating and rewarding now as when I started. I am COSRT and Relate accredited. I work with individuals, couples, families. I aim to support my clients to clarify the issues that are hindering their development and relationships in an effective way, while developing a greater understanding of the causes of their current problems and issues. In some cases the counselling can be quite specific and goal orientated; yet with others it can be more exploratory and pastoral. Most often it can include both, depending on the need.

Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress or relationships? Perhaps you feel overwhelmed by your emotions, disconnected from yourself, or caught in patterns you don't understand. You may have spent years believing something is "wrong" with you or trying to push painful experiences aside. I believe our difficulties make sense when we understand our story. Together, we'll explore your experiences with curiosity, compassion and care, helping you understand yourself differently. Often, we discover there is nothing "wrong" with you - your mind and body are responding to what you have lived through.

My approach is collaborative, creative, and exploratory. Many people come to therapy expecting to be analysed, advised, or given strategies to apply. That isn’t how I work. Our sessions will feel more like a thoughtful conversation with room for curiosity, emotion, experimentation, and meaning. We think things through together, sometimes using metaphor, imagery, or humour, and we’re not afraid to try things out. I work a lot with boarding school survivors and others who have experienced sustained or multiple traumas that continue to cause anxiety and affect their daily lives.

Good rapport with your Counsellor's the first step towards achieving change. My Counselling approach is different to anything my clients (both Adults & Children) have experienced before and it's because of this, they've felt at ease quickly and gained maximum benefit from their sessions. I've Counselled since 2019 and have a diverse range of additional skills that I integrate into my Counselling work. I work with Victims of Crime within Kent, as well as Children & Families who've been bereaved. I have over 10yrs experience working with Children & Young People, including those with additional needs, so my approach is inclusive.

Life can be challenging and overwhelming at times, making us feel lonely, sad, anxious and stressed. Our thoughts can become unclear, tangled up and sometimes we just cannot stop overthinking. We can even isolate ourselves and feel like there is no way out. Counselling can be a safe and non-judgmental form of relating that might bring a positive change, more clarity and a deeper understanding of our feelings, thoughts and the ways we behave.

I can help people at all stages of their lives, from primary school-aged children to older adults.
Would you (or your child) like to talk to someone about your feelings and concerns without them talking about their own experiences, giving you their opinions or leaving you feeling they don't really understand? This is where professional counselling can help. I know choosing a counsellor is difficult, there are many of us to choose from, but finding someone who is the 'right fit' is crucial for counselling to be effective. I appreciate that for some people it may be daunting to talk to someone who doesn't know them, and it can take time to build up trust in the counselling relationship but I will work at your pace.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counselling for elderly different from counselling for other age groups?
In general, counselling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialise in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counselling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counsellors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counsellors specialising in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counsellors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
