Dialectical Behaviour (DBT) Counselling in Maidenhead

I draw on psychodynamic and attachment ideas when it helps to look at where a pattern began, and I use CBT, ACT, DBT and motivational interviewing where they are useful.
I work with adults on a wide range of things. Anxiety, low mood, trauma, bereavement and loss, relationship and family difficulties, low self-worth, and questions about identity, culture and belonging. I also work with addiction and recovery, which sits alongside the rest of my practice rather than defining it. Sessions are online, so you can meet me from wherever you feel private enough to talk. If you are not ready to book anything yet, I also write printable workbooks on the things that come up most in my room. Core beliefs, self esteem, boundaries, attachment and recovery, to work through at your own pace.

My approach is primarily relational psychodynamic, integrating DBT, ACT and compassion-focused techniques.
Hi, I am Simi, I work at My Therapy Space, a therapy service where everyone's voice is heard. Together, we work at your pace to build greater self-understanding, emotional confidence and meaningful change.

Many of the people I work with are high‑functioning adults navigating stress, anxiety, trauma or identity pressures. They often feel overwhelmed, pulled between responsibilities and their own needs, or caught in patterns shaped by family, culture or past experiences. They’re thoughtful, resilient and aware that something deeper needs attention. Therapy supports them to feel more grounded, break old cycles, improve relationships and reconnect with a clearer sense of self.

I offer integrative therapy blending person-centred, CBT, DBT, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed care with mindfulness and coaching.
Life can feel heavy when you’re exhausted from "keeping it together" while navigating trauma, anxiety, or the complexities of neurodivergence. Perhaps you’re struggling with the weight of masking, or maybe past experiences are showing up in your body as tension, shame, or hypervigilance. You might simply feel "out of sorts" or stuck in a cycle of survival that leaves you feeling misunderstood. I offer a gentle, trauma-informed space where you don’t have to explain yourself or be anyone other than who you are. Whether we are exploring childhood trauma, cultural identity, or the day-to-day challenges of ADHD and mood, all at your pace

I Specialise in DBT which is used to support but not limited to BPD, Eating disorders, self harm, depression.
I want to help everyone I work with build a life worth living. Whether that’s because life is not what you want it to be due to trauma, specific mental health challenges, you are just wanting to have a place to explore your ways of thinking. Life can throw us one of its many curveballs, it’s okay to be overwhelmed, left feeling confused and stuck because by it as we “did everything how we were meant to.” I hold the belief that everyone is OK and the relationship built between Therapist and Client holds the key to creating change for the better. I want to help give you back your power to control and enjoy your life to its fullest.

"I just want to talk about everything that is going on...!". "I want to be happy". "I am looking for a place to vent". "Some days the world is too big". "I do not know what is happening to me". "I am sad". "I am anxious". "I am stressed". "Work is too much". "I feel lonely". "I have a problem with my partner, friends, children, teachers, family, work colleagues...". These are some of the things that I had heard from friends, relatives, colleagues, clients over the years when they are looking for a different point of view or extra support in their life.

You may be successful, capable and used to being the person others rely on, yet find familiar relationship patterns repeating, emotions taking you by surprise, or ways of coping that helped you succeed now getting in the way. I won’t assume the problem is simply “inside” you. Together, we’ll look at the whole picture: What has shaped you, your relationships, work and wider circumstances, as well as your strengths and what already works. My style is curious, direct and thoughtful: Supportive when needed, challenging when useful. The aim is greater freedom to choose what happens next.

With evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, ACT and Person-Centered Therapy, I provide personalized support.
You are not broken. You may be feeling emotional pain, distress, or psychological strain, but that doesn’t mean you are damaged. These responses often reflect your strength and resilience. What you're experiencing is an emotional build-up, not a breakdown. You might be living with anxiety, depression, grief, low self-worth, or trauma. Over time, you may have built defences to cope and protect yourself. These patterns helped you survive, but they are not your truest self. Healing begins by gently reconnecting with the parts of you that have been hidden, and making space for who you truly are.

Dialectical Behaviour (DBT) Counsellors
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
